Election Day is finally here

Favorite election-related post on FaceBook: "I got so confused by all those yard signs, I think I voted for a realtor".
I guess the argument could be made that you are voting for a realtor, as in, who's going to be managing the US real estate for the next 4 years. Maybe a bit of a stretch, a little.

Very long day..... my precinct is so slow to close out. 0510-2215. Enjoy interacting with the voters but closing is brutal after a long day. Physically taxing as my position is standing the entire time.
Goodness, that is such a long day!!!! And standing the whole time? My body wouldn't be able tolerate that. Thank you so much for volunteering!

I enjoyed our watch party last night.... DW and I cuddled up in bed, watched 2 hours of MASH, then popped in the movie "Shadow Riders" and fell asleep.

I was until I heard one of the volunteers standing by the ballot collecting machine chatting with someone, calling one of the candidates by an unflattering nickname used by the opposing party backers. I told him I thought that was inappropriate, repeating the nickname he used so he could be sure of what I was talking about, and when I got home I reported it. I should've asked who was in charge at that precinct and suggest he be removed. I never heard anything from the election commission. This was a 2000 primary election.
I started poll working out of curiosity to see the system from the inside. From my perspective FL and my county have a good system. The hanging chads of yesteryear bore some good fruit. I was never a super cynic but have more faith now having done this. Most voters are very thankful and friendly and the few that had issues with their ballots were very patient and courteous. The precinct I have worked is mostly economically disadvantaged and I suspect the wealthier areas may get more "Karens" to deal with?

Poll workers here are paid but not enough for the commitment involved IMO*... I would not do this as a "fun job" without pay or the civic contribution I feel. There is no tolerance for partisanship that I have seen and it is drilled in the training to be and appear impartial. I

* In my position I get paid $245 for 3hr training, ~3hr set up on Monday, and 15-18hrs on election day. There is an option to donate the pay but I need to buy myself a drink after election day!

I needed some time to wind down and only slept about 3 hours. My body was pretty sore and tossed around a lot trying to get comfy. I have a tour this morning and will try to nap (or at least some yoga nidra) after lunch. Technically paid but thanks.
