Electric Vehicles - Models Discussion

There were lot of Cybertrucks parked at our service center too. I think Tesla made too many.

When my grandson was visiting in January we counted 11 over a 2 hour ride on the Fl turnpike. Even more surprising, they had 9 different colors between them, most of which we’ve never seen before on any auto or truck.

They start at $67K now but all the first Cybertrucks sold were $100-$120K. Folks that have that much to spend probably don’t want their vehicle to look like everyone else’s, and can obviously afford a wrap.

Tesla sales have fallen dramatically all over the world recently, more abroad than here in the US. Some of that can be attributed to the new Model Y Juniper rollout, but not all of it…

There have been many siting accounts of Tesla cars in lots "unsold", but the days inventory supply always is the shortest in the industry. They adapt fast. You can go to almost any ICE dealer and see lines of models - but that doesn't make the press. Usually the large lines of Tesla's turn out to be waiting for overseas, train or fleet shipments. When they show 6 month old vehicles I might start paying attention.

Any chance you can check again I a few days to see if they were picked up? Seems they must have been purchased unless they are wrapping them on spec.
The ones that were wrapped I saw in the wild!! None were wrapped at the dealer.

A couple of observations....

Was going to pick up some BBQ and saw a Tesla dealership next to it... I was really surprised at how many cars were on the lot since I read they are hard to get... There had to be 20 to 30 Cybertrucks in a long row...

The other thing is that most people do not seem to like the metal look of the Cybertruck... over half (maybe 3/4th) of the ones that I see have a wrap... I have no problem with this but it seems that people do not have the same vision as Tesla...
I saw my first Cybertruck a week or so ago. Looks just like the picture BUT it seems so much BIGGER than I thought it was going to be. Can't say I like it, but I don't hate it either. Likely will never own a truck - cyber or otherwise.

So some buyers of EVs and PHEVs are screwed because their dealers didn't report the sales properly to the IRS. The process for 2024 was new. https://www.npr.org/2025/02/28/nx-s1-5301005/ev-tax-credit-returns-denied
Interesting story.
Short version:
  • For 2024, forms for dealers to report EV sales changed.
  • About 20% of dealers didn’t use updated forms.
  • People who chose to get a tax rebate rather than POS rebate from those dealers are getting rejected.
Happy to see the dealer in the story admitted the mistake and trying to resolve it.

It would be nice if the IRS would give them a break. The sale is supposed to be reported within 3 days!

Now if Tesla would have designed their cybertruck to look like this electric 1947 Tama, I’d buy one tomorrow. Of course, the new truck would have to exceed the 20 mph top speed/ 40 mile range of the Tama.

I'm still holding out for my all wheel drive electric van with a 250+ mile range. The absolute perfect vehicle for me if it existed.

This was sort of silly before the crash tests rating was released but more so now that the Cybertruck has a 5 star rating and the lowest rollover risk of any pickup tested

Has anyone mentioned Honda Zero?

Here's a video on early models - production expected in 2026.

Sounds pretty good to me. I currently drive a CR-V. We were thinking that our next vehicle would be a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, but we'll see what comes out in the next 2-3 years.
Pretty cool. But I'm looking for something simpler in my next car. The gee-whiz stuff might be fun, but in my experience, stuff breaks. The more stuff you have the more stuff that breaks.

I'm also not looking forward to getting in and out of that vehicle. Our '99 Honda CRV was the ultimate ingress/egress vehicle for old people like me.

I guess I have fully reached old-fuddy-duddy status. (Bah, humbug??) Nahhhh! Just creak, groan, crack, uhhhhh. Now where does the key go and how do I start this thing?

If there is a Honda Zero in showrooms in 2026, I doubt it will look much like the concept cars inside or out, but that's the norm for most automakers. I assume this is not another rebrand collaboration with GM, and Honda has (mostly) their own tech this time, but there's very little written that I can find. It's funny to see Honda & Toyota embracing EVs at all after many years of promoting fuel cells and actively discouraging EVs...

Looks cool. The turn signal is pretty futuristic but I wonder if the regulators would approve?

Toyota is holding their nose while they begrudgingly make EVs available.

The only reason is that the market in China is heading towards EVs very rapidly.

Honda may be ‘embracing’ EVs, I am looking forward to what they bring to the market.

This Toyota BZ3X looks interesting but IDK if it will be available outside China

It appears to be better looking than the Cyber Truck, which admittedly is not saying much..

Don’t know about that. Almost looks like it has a fusion engine in the back a la Back to the Future. But it is severely foreshortened in the image.
