Examples of current inflation - add yours!

Safeway 3 weeks ago was normal price $9.99 for a 12 pk of name brand pop. Now it is $10.99. As are other stores in the area. On sale one can still find it under $5/12pk
Until the big run-up in inflation, it was common to find regular prices on pop at (for instance) Walmart 3 12-packs for $10 every day. Now $5 is as cheap as I ever see it though YMMV.

What is it with the addiction to soda? My BIL drinks at least 12 coke zeros each day. He's diabetic. He says no sugar in it so it's fine. Aren't the other ingredients that make up soda bad for you? I refer to it as sludge. Its hard for me to comprehend that the mouth pleasure is so good that you can keep pumping that liquid in your stomach. I'd be bloated. Not to mention the price has skyrocketed. I remember seeing deals not so long ago...$2.50/dozen.

I have one Pepsi Zero per day. I believe my addiction is to the fizz, or a combination of the fizz and fake sweet. They work together in some evil way.

Trying to break it is tough. But 12 per day? Holy smokes.

Amazon increased their music service price by 10% to 18%.

I enjoy carbonation, but I only drink carbonated water or sparkling mineral water. At home I make my own. In Europe it’s great, because every restaurant has sparkling water available. Not so in the US, only a few restaurants offer San Pellegrino.

Local supermarket egg case empty except for premium eggs, small sign said out due to high demand. I didn’t think you could hoard eggs.

They last a surprisingly long time if you keep them in the fridge.

Gasoline is up nearly 20 cents a gallon in the past few weeks. Yes, I know energy is not part of the core index. But, core index or not, I can’t pay for it with my smile.

That’s interesting. But oil dropped recently and is back near the lows for the year, and for the past 3 years.

This is normal seasonal variation. Gasoline prices are generally at their lowest in Dec/Jan and start to rise until the late spring early summer when they peak, and then drop again. US Retail Gas Price Weekly Insights: Weekly Retail Gasoline and On-Highway Diesel Prices | YCharts

This talk about soda reminded me of an article I read about some of the big names in snack foods and soda having a bit of a down-turn, mostly in their salty snack lines.

No kidding! Have you seen the prices they're charging? That's a hard no for me. I actually found some recipes to make crackers myself.

I was a bit surprised that the soft drink lines were faring better. I guess investing in addictive substances is always a good bet. I still won't buy at these prices. I have a jar of iced tea brewing right now. I was never into carbonated drinks all that much anyway. Just never seems to quench my thirst.

I try to keep a couple cases of the mini cans on hand for the kids/grands. Usually buy several around July 4th, when they seem to have good sales. Getting low, so I need to check and see if "Super Bowl" prices are any good around here.
Last time I bought, I got three 12 packs for $10.

Last grocery run, needed eggs. Pains me to pay $6-7 for a dozen, when $0.99 used to be a great sale for generic eggs. I do prefer pasture raise/cage free brown eggs now, for the few times I eat them, but the price when I went was close to $8-10!!

I think it's one of the "anons" (like Alcoholics Anonymous) who borrowed from St. Thomas Aquinus description of faith: To one who has an addiction, no explanation is needed, to one not addicted to anything, no explanation is possible.

I look at my "addiction" to Diet Pepsi as not only cheaper but less dangerous than addiction to tobacco products or alcohol or illicit drugs. That's not a justification, but one heck of a rationalization!

If folks examine their behaviors, a lot of us who don't believe we have an addiction might find that, indeed, we do. An explanation of the current obesity crisis can certainly be partially explained by addiction. There is a school of thought that the "food" companies have learned how to get us addicted to their processed foods. I'm open on that subject without saying it as a proven fact. But my point is that one should be careful when pointing a finger. (You've got three fingers pointing back). ;)

Eggs generally "keep" for a very long time in the fridge. They are a wonder of nature in that regard.

Our Dyson V8 vacuum died today. Problem was the battery which I bought in 2021 for $16.
Ordered a new battery today for $26.

I got a really good deal on A&W twelve packs back in Sept. Just $2.17 ea. by using a buy two get two free deal. But they rang up for double the advertised price, so I think the sign was in error:

Kroger currently has a buy 2 get 3 free. So 5 for 21.98 About as good as it gets lately that I have seen.

Yeah, we check Kroger when we're on the Mainland. Once in a while we get a deal about that good. I do shop around for sodas and can usually keep it at $5/12 pack. But it's getting harder all the time. That's why I stock up when I can.

We have been relatively healthy for several years, so needed to go to Walgreens to pick up "cold medicine" for my current rebound covid: Mucinex, my allergy nasal spray, nasal saline spray, chapstick, also picked up a 8x10 simple frame and printed 4 pictures--- $106!!! I tried to get generic if it was available. Geeze.

A moderate January brought the highest natural gas bill I’ve gotten in 25 years. <head scratch emoticon>

Yea, our electric bill at our "closed" summer house in PA, with the temperature set at 52-54 degrees, looks like the highest ever.

I can top those! We neither heat nor air condition and STILL our electric bill has gone up - again!

No change in my usage, but the bill keeps going up. They keep raising my connection charge. It's $75 now even if I don't use ANY electricity, just to have it available.
