On a recent getaway we dined at the resort restaurant. Entrees ranged from $25-65 (vegetarian pasta to signature lamb chops), which I thought was reasonable for any resort area in the US.

However, the salads were over $20 with salmon, shrimp, or steak add-ons nearly doubling that price (e.g., $40 for a wedge salad with shrimp). Hopefully they don't skimp on the shrimp, but it seemed really off in terms of pricing, so I just had a bowl of soup for $8, which was absolutely delicious as were the lamb chops.

My breakfast dive increased my two eggs, a waffle, and coffee by about $3. It’s the eggs…

Um, eggs are back to the price they were before all the chickens were slaughtered.

My daily Whataburger breakfast with my friends:

Scrambled eggs (roughly 2), bacon, coffee (unlimited) = $2.92
But BTD! 😉 That’s a pretty good deal.

They’re a regular breakfast stop on roadtrips for sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit and coffee. But the scenery is better at the dive. 😇

Jack in the Box has a platter for $6 and change with two scrambled, three bacon, a hash brown patty, and some silver dollar pancakes.

Of course, my usual coffee, oatmeal, banana, egg, and milk at home is fairly inexpensive, but even a hermit introvert needs to get out occasionally.

Though often that reminds me why I stay home. 😉

We are stuck at Whataburger and sometimes have 12 - 14 old farts there in the morning, I'm usually second to get there (7:00 AM) after I walk my dog. They treat us good there and have for a long time. I'm not an introvert and need to be around people, which is why this single life is killing me.

It's been a while since I've bought Gatorade but had to buy some for an upcoming colonoscopy. The instructions call for a 64 oz bottle or two 32 oz bottles. Little did I know there were no 64 oz bottles at Walmart but what looked like 32 oz bottle were actually 28 oz. Shrinkflation again.

Sara Lee Whole Grain bread at Walmart jumped from $2.62 to $2.93. That's about a 12% increase since my previous trip.

I buy boutique-ish bread and eggs anyway, which are sold at inflated prices to begin with. Many things I buy regularly are store brands, so it balances.

DW had a cardiac ablation in sept 2023 - total billed cost was about $90k. She had another last month. Same doctor and hospital. Just got the initial bill in the mail - billed cost about $119k. Of the $90k last time I believe Medicare paid out in the $25-30k range. We'll see what they pay this time.

And we wonder why Medicare premiums are going up.

DW's doctor is pushing ablation though she has not been in A-fib for several months now. I just wonder if it's some kind of "growth industry" for doctors as it was once pretty rare I think.

DW went into Afib in 2018. She's has at least 9 "cardio" "jump starts". The Sept 23 ablation lasted til April 24 - she was scheduled for another ablation in 8/24, but caught Covid just before so that didn't happen. The latest one last month didn't work so she's still in Afib. Next appt in mid July to discuss options.

Best luck to your DW.

My DW is putting off a decision until we return from our summer on the mainland. DW IS obtaining a Cardiologist on the Mainland - just to be one step ahead should she have any problems while we are there. Oddly, it was easier to find a Cardiologist than it was to find a PCP!! What's up with that?

Has she had the cardio version yet where they "re-sync" the heart? The ablation is an out patient procedure as is the cardio version but the ablation is more of a last effort.

Her A-Fib has always converted on its own. That has happened to me as well. Neither of us has required cardio version.

My spouse lamented yesterday that dry flies at Bob Ward's now cost $15.00/dozen prior price was $10.00/dozen.🦈 The Westslope cutthroat say boo hoo.

Just got my Medicare Plan G premium increase for 2025 - 17.7% !! Guess the Octogenarian status of me is costs me me money.

Mine was about 23% each of the last 2 yrs. DWs was also 25% - different companies.

Wendy's here just raised the regular menu price of Son of Baconator from $3 (which was fair) to $7.09! I won't be buying any more of those. That's a 136% price increase!

Does this count as shrinkflation? Maybe substitute-flation? I sometimes buy canned pasta with meatballs. When the last can looked and tasted different, I read the label. The meatballs are now chicken and beef, instead of all beef. Won't be buying it again.
