Fidelity Visa updated to unique card numbers for each user

I'm hoping this is only happening for authorized users. Perfectly happy sharing a CC number with spouse, especially if having 2 complicates aggregator getting data from Elan.
Happening with my spouse.

We received the two updated cards. Mine has the same number, expiration date and CVC as before so I’m not sure why I got a new one except the color is a darker shade of green and all info is on the back which is black. DH has a new number and CVC, same expiration date as mine.

Didn't see this mentioned, but what happens to all the auto charges on the current cc? Do I need to call every vendor and provide them with the new number?

I just received the email from Elan that we will be getting new cards. Searched their FAQs but did not find the answer to this question. We have all of our auto charges on this card as it gives us the most cash back.

No, the number will remain the same for the one of you designated as account owner, the other user will get a new number. I got a new card, but same number, expiration date, CVC so I don’t have to change anything. DH got a new card number with different CVC but same expiration.

If all the auto charges are on the primary number, than no.

Nothing really changed with having the two numbers. Our summary just designates which card made the charge.

Received the email notification today.

So, doesn't seem to be any different for joint owners vs authorized users.

I don't use fidelity but 3 of 4 cards we use we have different numbers. I always thought this was the norm. I guess not.

The authorized user on my Chase CC has a card with his name but with the same CC number as mine.

This seems to be the most common way Visa cards are issued by banks. So doing otherwise is not common.

Not 100% related to the OP, but we recently realized that we each have a different number on our Costco membership card, even though they are in the same account.

Figured this out because only receipts for purchases made with your membership card show up in your recipes tab in the phone app.

This actually turns out to be nice because we go to Costco together but buy stuff separately. So only the stuff I bought shows up on Costco app on my phone, and the same goes for her.

P.S. The receipts being available in the app is a godsend for me. Unlike the grocery store, which is 99% groceries for example. I can be buying anything from a computer to a microwave to steak at Costco and I like to break out those categories in my financial (quicken-like) program. I'm rarely near the Costco receipt when I'm categorizing new purchases, but typically have my phone with me.

Costco Visa did that from the beginning. They did so because the Costco Amex card they replaced provided different numbers for cardholders which is the default for American Express. When they switched to Visa, they had Citibank continue separate numbers for each card holder. Yes, it’s nice.

The Costco membership is the same number, it’s treated as one membership with up to two holders. It’s the credit card that has different CC numbers.

We don't have Costco CCs. For us, it's the membership numbers that are different/unique, in the same membership account.

My old Fido Visa cards expired 02/26 and I just activated the new ones a week ago. The same number for both cards.

Is this going to be like the TurboTax thing where some get it and some don’t?

I like the idea of separate numbers.
I just received an email from Fidelity that I’m getting new cards in the mail. I’m no longer excluded.
Each card will have a unique card number, giving you access to new features that put you in control of your account.
I have no idea what new features they are talking about or why they would allow us access or control we didn’t have before, but I still like the idea of separate numbers.

They could have saved themselves some money by doing this before sending my normal replacement cards a month ago.

That would have required too much coordination, ha ha.

The new features are seeing which individual charged each transaction, and the ability to set limits on each authorized user if so inclined, lock, etc.

I was in the same boat, new cards issued a few months back, with the same #. Then, on Monday, two envelopes from Fargo ND show up in my USPS informed delivery, and they are the new cards with separate numbers for each of us.

But I didn't get an email from Fidelity until the next day, saying they would arrive in 5-7 days.

I'm not happy with that, since I wasn't told to look for them for another 5-7 days, but clearly were mailed days before, they could have been lost and I'd still be waiting the 5-7 days.

Weird.

But I guess we should cut them slack on the apparent lack of planning, issuing new cards with same #, just to replace a few months later. Since cards expire are 4 years out, unless they were willing to wait nearly 4 years to update everyone, there would always be some that were issued a few months before any set date of change. Roughly 1 out of 49 cardholders would be 1 month before any set cut over.

I got a new one but the # was the same. I suppose DW will get one with a different #.

Yep - I'm actually glad they did that. My card was in every way identical to the one I already had. My wife, an authorized user, received a new card with a unique number etc. Before this, other people I know who had the card and had it compromised ended up with both having to get new cards.

Cheers.
