I know some folks have partaken in expensive and exotic meals.... High end Sushi, Kobe beef ECT.
Well DW and I the other day got a wild hair and indulged in something neither of us have had in many years.

Egg Sald Sandwiches.....

I forget. Are eggs in or out?

I have issues with foods getting old or even going bad before we have had a chance to eat them. Introduced pickling to my skills. I now pickle about everything and the items last forever. For example; cheese that goes moldy before I can eat it all. I now just cut it into sizes that fit the pickle jar and they turn out great. You can reuse the pickle juice in your store bought pickles or there are several pickling flavor packets you can buy. My preference is with Mrs. Wages brand. They also make the pickling vinegar I use as well.
I've also pickled most any veggie from the garden; okra, beets, carrots, cauliflower, etc but I've now discovered eggs are awesome pickled.

I guess I'm fortunate that egg prices have not increased here as much as I have heard they have elsewhere in the US.

I did see duck eggs at the Asian supermarket going for around $1.50 per egg. And then there are those tiny quail eggs. Maybe they come under the heading of "micro-BTD."

Pickled eggs are a great bar food where I grew up (Connecticut).

Uber eats delivery while we were in California: 3 sandwich meals from Subway when we were visiting our friend. DH had never used the uber eats on his phone, was not paying attention after I ordered and told him "I paid the tips already"(both to the sandwich shop and driver) and he added another tip:blink: $100 and some change all together! lol

As a country, our people have too much discretionary money!LOL!

I guess that's true, but for some reason, I'm too discreet with my money. I've never been tempted to do Uber Eats or Door Dash or any of the others. Back in the day, we occasionally had a Papa John's Pizza delivered. I can't recall NOT being disappointed but that's another story.

$100 for 3 subs? Gimme a can of potted meat and crackers.

Don’t use uber eats or door dash, but I have noticed that their markup is huge. Still they remain quite popular so I guess folks want their food delivered and don’t care that it costs way more.

My weakness or splurge is NY strip from Wegmans. Like good scotch, once I tried them I couldn’t go back. We put on the Traegar or Webber. Currently on a trip and I can’t wait to get home and have my fav 😋
ETA we also splurge on stone crab about once or twice a year. 😋😋

We splurge a great deal on high quality meat and seafood. We only eat at home unless traveling, so we enjoy using top notch ingredients.

Similar here. We eat pretty simple, but I have no qualms about buying good food and the high ticket item is typically meat. The chicken we get is typically $6.99/lb but we eat a lot of chicken and I’ve never had it be rubbery or what they call woody breast. There’s a market near us with higher cost and better produce. I don’t go there often, but when I have people over and especially around the holidays, that’s the place to be.

Uber Eats/Grubhub both big ripoffs.

We ate at Mellow Mushroom (a pizza place) during our cross country eclipse chasing trip last year. It had been over a decade since we had eaten there (they don't have them out west) and I was at first disappointed when I didn't see our favorite pizza on the menu. I described it as best I could remember to the waitress (steak, mushrooms, some sort of garlic sauce, etc.). She immediately said oh, that is a secret menu item you can order, called the Philosopher's Pizza. It was just as good as remembered (this was in Texas IIRC, we ate it again in Florida down near Fort Meyers).

Back home now, we have recreated it a couple of times. Grill out a nice thick ribeye steak, slice it into chunks, portobello mushroom sliced, artichoke hearts, Greek olives, roasted garlic, feta, mozzarella, parmesan.

Has to be the perfect pizza. Does cost a bit to make.

We still eat out but our real splurge is food for preparing at home. Our biggest is bison strip steaks or bison tenderloins.
