Does TT Premium provide any significant help with investment sales of stocks, bonds, mutual funds over the lesser TT Deluxe? From the TT website, it says that Premium offers 'Additional help for investment sales such as stocks, bonds, royalties, mutual funds, employee stock plans and other investment types' but offers no real details. I do not have any ESPP.

A a simple tax filer I've always used TT Deluxe. All I have is: 1) standard deduction, 2) income from my employer, 3) a separate 1099 for an instructor side job and 4) proceeds from the sale of stock options (covered calls and secured puts) and occasional sale/purchase of stocks.

Deluxe desktop version handles all security sales, long and short term gains or losses, interest and dividend income, foreign tax credit, NIIT, home sale, Schedule C income.

For royalties I have no idea, but would be surprised if that wasn’t handled by Deluxe. I believe Premier gives some additional help with ESPPs.

My mother receives basic (simple) oil/gas lease royalties and Deluxe has always handled it fine. Not sure what type of complexity the OPs royalties are.

Deluxe has always handled my personal investments (stocks, mutual funds, buy/sell, dividends, etc.) just fine.

I have never found anything that Deluxe couldn't handle the same as Premium, but I always recommend that people simply buy Deluxe and if they find themselves in one of those rare situations they can upgrade very easily from within the program.

All I do is sale of options and ETF stocks. No bonds (yet), no royalties, no mutual funds, no ESPP.

I found this from the TT community: 'The additional help comes from expanded interviews and/or blue links with specific information.' Not much to go from that statement. Oh, well.

I think there is a difference between deluxe online and deluxe download. Deluxe download is the recommended version. If you are going to use the online version of TT, you may or may not need Premium. I don't know.

Look, they are really trying to sell you the much more expensive Premier.

Deluxe will handle any tax problem...

I think the difference is how much help they give you by asking questions..
