Fourth of July Over the Years

You know those photo collages that Google and Microsoft One Drive will send by collating photos from your storage? I thought it was nice of Microsoft One Drive to notify me of some of the memories I've had on the Fourth of July. I thought I'd share one. This is my sister and me, I'm guessing it's 1965. Ain't AI great?

When I first saw your photo I wondered why the one doll had a flower pot on her head. Then I saw her feet resting on a foot rest and realized she was sitting in what looked like a barber chair. After a search I learned this is Miss Beauty Parlor doll by Deluxe Reading. That wasn’t a flower pot. It’s the hair dryer.

AND Thomas Jefferson passed away 200 years ago 07/04/1826. 50th anniversary of the Declaration.

I couldn’t figure it out. But that 1/2 car on the right sure looks like fun!

Without zooming in, I came to different conclusions:

A blood-red spinning wheel, so pokes don't show.
An assemble-it-yourself Old Sparky kit (batteries not included) for a recalcitrant doll.
A boy about to use the new-for-1965 plastic Hookah (later recalled due to fires).
I DO like the snazzy dashboard!

I'm amazed about how your sitting... can you still sit like that? No, don't try it on my account!

It does look like I've got a hookah! LOL. I think it might be parts of an erector set.

I remember that car dashboard. Played with that thing a lot.

Looks like I'm wearing suspenders. My mom had me in suspenders for a while when I was a kid. Never understood why.

That is an odd sitting position, and no, I'm not trying it now.

I was born in 1965. I remember the Bi Centennial very well. It was a much bigger deal than this year's 250th.

I live in Minnesota. Fireworks are illegal because we are irresponsible citizens in this state and can't handle it, or some other reason. My buddies and I would drive 31 miles to South Dakota after working in the fields and spend a day's wages on fireworks and had a wonderful time on the 4th of July. 45 years ago. Great memories.

Interestingly, John Adams died the same day, and his last words were reported to be "Thomas Jefferson survives." (He was wrong. Jefferson had died a few hours earlier.)

True story. AND didn't Pres Monroe ALSO pass on the 4th some years later??
