Getting rid of WEP and GPO?

However, not sure what the date actually means. Mine says 3/3/25 but nothing deposited so far today, so perhaps it means the week of 3/3/25?
My date says 2/24 for a one-time retroactive payment. Deposit was made today

Since my application has been in limbo for many weeks (Nov 12) at step 2 waiting on an agent in Baltimore I girded my loins at 4pm my time (11am EST) and using my Skype account called the number for the Baltimore office which I expect is a general number. I was on hold for 3 hours and 16 minutes before a most helpful lady answered and after 10 minutes talking with her I believe she is going to get the application out of the bottom of the bucket it appears to be in. She said she could see no reason at all why it hadn’t been processed as they had all the information they need. She checked that all my details are correct, address in England, my UK mobile phone number etc. She said she is going to send a message to get this rolling and I should expect a benefit verification letter within 20 days or a request for more information.

Before hanging up, I made sure to tell her that I know she and her colleagues are working hard in difficult circumstances, that they are doing a great job and that I really appreciate all of their efforts. I reckon my 3+ hours on hold is nothing compared to what they are going through right now.

Just checked my wife's account and her spousal application was approved today, just over a week from the phone appt. to apply. No other info yet. My WEP benefit still hasn't been processed.

The SSA.gov site showed new information 3/3/25. There is a chart showing how many cases they have and how many they have processed. They have processed around 20%.

My account still shows suspended. I am affected by WEP and GPO, so I just need to be patient.

Glad to hear that others are receiving their updated amounts.

DW spoke to SSA today regarding her SS benefit, affected by WEP. Rep told her that 60% of cases have been processed. Call back end of March if she hasn't heard anything. I guess when she receives an increased SS benefit, they'll have to recalculate my spousal benefit

Ya Hooooo!

DH just got a call back from his contact person at Social Security. He asked her what the problem was with his application. Out of all the documents that he took in to the local office, she only got the copy of his passport.

So on the phone she verified his info, completed his spousal application and was even able to give him the amount of his lump sum and his monthly benefit.

His monthly amount concurs with what I estimated based on my benefit, taken 24 months before my FRA.

And his lump sum looks like 8 months worth. July 2024 - Feb 2025.

Thanks for sharing the good news. Glad to hear it's all w*rking out.

Got one lump sum payment this morning, though I'm still on Step 1 on my Social Security online account and my upcoming payment for March 19 hasn't been adjusted. Waiting for the letters/notices to come from SSA to explain the payment calculations, per the updated information on the SSA website.

Good news today, my wife's SS has been adjusted up with the elimination of WEP and new monthly benefit will be paid in April. (She gets her benefits paid 1st of each month)

No mention of when the back payment may come but I'm confident that it will happen in due course.

I received a deposit yesterday (March 4) that I assume is back pay + adjustments for Jan/Feb 2025. I haven’t received any paper mail but my benefit verification letter is up online.

It was tricky to estimate because I reached FRA (full retirement age) in late 2024.

Most of my career was subject to WEP in state employment (university). I never expected to collect anything from Social Security so it’s a welcome bonus from various other jobs.

Added: it appears that there were no changes to IRMAA levied.

DW's SSA account now shows WEP backpay and an updated Benefits Verification letter (BVL). My SSA account shows additional GPO backpay and a revised BVL. Looks like we're set. Thanks to all that helped

My backpay benefits showed up last night showing today's date as the payment date but it did not get deposited into my back account overnight as is typical for my regular monthly benefit when it shows like that. Maybe it processed later than normal? I am assuming that it will post tonight but time will tell.

My SSA benefit verification letter is updated to show the new monthly amount effective in March to be paid in April. The new amount is about $100 more per month than my back of the envelope calculations so that was good news!.

Wife's spousal lump sum was deposited today. I am still WEPed. If they are going alphabetically, I will be near the end of the line.🫤

Today I brought my documents to the appointment I had at SS. She said my file went to the payment center last week after she talked to me and that they would receive my documents electronically today. She said that I would be paid quickly but she couldn’t see the amounts since it was at the payment center.

Sounds like it's starting to move quickly. Best luck.

I received a large deposit from SSA on Monday which I assumed was the lump sum payment. It exceeded what I thought it might have been. Today, we received more deposits from SSA for both my wife (GPO), and myself (WEP), more inline with what I thought the deposits would be. I checked our accounts online and the second deposits match our accounts. The first large deposit is nowhere to be found. Just curious if anyone else received an extra deposit.

That is odd. So, the first larger amount isn't listed on your SSA account? Does it by chance add up to the two other deposits? I assume the deposit is ID as being from SSA?
I think I'd wait to see if it clears up over night and then make calls if it doesn't.

As anticipated my back payment posted overnight into my account.

When I woke up this morning I had 7k in my bank account. I was shocked as I turned in the documents yesterday afternoon. The website still shows me in step two so not positive what my new monthly payment will be but have a fairly good idea.

That sounds similar to what I saw. The payment I received was deposited a couple of days before it appeared as a one-time payment on the social security website.

I’m anticipating the usual monthly deposit later in the month.

I think SSA is doing quite a job to get these payments out so quickly.
