I got this idea for a thread after grumbling about the d@mn cutting boards my wife bought a couple years ago. As I was washing off the three, (yes three!) cutting boards I employed to make lunch today I did an assessment of the product. A mini-review.
Here's the product:
https://www.amazon.com/Joseph-60134...p/dp/B01N1WOVKP/ref=psdc_289863_t1_B08DD6JWX7
First of all, it's ridiculously expensive. $60 for four small slabs of soft plastic and a holding case. I see there are much cheaper knock-off versions available now.
Secondly, the cutting boards are too small. That's why I have to use two or three while preparing a meal. Chopping lettuce or other veggies on one of the boards almost always causes overflow onto the countertop. When this happens I really get steamed. Then there is washing and drying the three cutting boards afterwards. I've often joked if I had a buck for every time I'd cleaned a cutting board I could retire.
Third, the plastic is soft. It is easy to leave knife marks in the surface, small grooves that trap bacteria and crud. I wonder how many miniscule shavings of plastic I've eaten over the past several years? If I am eating them, I guess I'd rather eat wood shavings from a wooden cutting board than a plastic board.
On the other hand...
* It is an attractive set. The boards are color coded for meat, veggies, fish, etc.
* They store neatly in the case and it looks good tucked away in the corner on the countertop. The footprint is relatively small.
Basically, it's a good idea that fails in actual daily use.
Anybody else have an example of a product that you might loathe but admit it's a good idea?
