Golf Talk Tuesdays - 2021

JJ Spaun.

Talk about never giving up. Wow!

Brutal course, but equally brutal for all of them.

^^^ Yeah, but does the guy ever smile or laugh? Very serious demeanor!

JJ's long birdie putt on 18 put an exclamation point on his win.

I liked the video of Robert McIntyre watching and clapping and mouthing "Wow!". Class act.

NY, Bethpage Black course some years ago while attending Barclays there. Man those were some bunkers. Rough course to walk.

It’s my opinion that in those first few years there is way more pressure than a US Open. Back then he was struggling to survive, by winning back in 2022 he had secured his future, most of us could retire on the winnings of 1 tour event alone. That experience had hardened him and allowed him to shrug off the bad start.

He hung in there. Got to give him credit for that. But.....he got plenty of help from Burns and Scott. That was 2 weeks in a row Burns had a chance to win and came up short.

How many here have actually shot their age?
Never have, probably never will. Came within 3 strokes/years (on a real course) in 2023 but that was a fluke - my lowest score ever, even lower than my varsity golf years in high school...

I play regularly with three guys, 71, 73 and 80 yo, who've done it so many times they stopped counting years ago.

My husband has done it many times. At 74, he shot 73 and 74 that year. A month ago, and he had just turned 77 a few days before and he shot 73 and followed by 77 the following day.

Not yet but getting close as I approach 68, shot a couple 69's recently but I'm not playing from the Championship tees either like in my younger years. The tees you play from can certainly make a big difference in total score.

Leewood Golf Club, Eastchester NY
played whites 5915 yds, rating 70.2, slope 138, par 70
lots of elevation both up and down. plenty of obstructions like water and sand surrounding most holes. challenging course. course was well cared for. greens ran fast when i played.
fun fact Babe Ruth was a member there back in the day.
