Half of American Parents Financially Support Adult Children...

If Mr. Hand is based on the teacher I think he was - he died a few years ago.

Like I said - every guy who was my class thought he was Spicoli. I had a friend sue Crowe for 'defamation of character' and got a guitar from Crowe's wife (Nancy Wilson of Heart) as settlement. He was the basis for Mark the Rat Ratner.

The book was less fictionalized - I was able to identify several people based on what happens in the book.

Here's an article about it: They are dead accurate when they identify Todd Floyd and Andy Rathbone.

Thanks for the site. I can see how one might be elated by seeing themselves "portrayed" in the movie or, alternately horrified.

A classier portrayal of a HS class was the book "What Really Happened to the Class of '65?" by Medved and Wallechinsky. It's a factual update, 10 years later on several of the class mates of the authors.

As a member of my own "Class of '65" I could relate - especially to the Viet Nam stories - but not the location in a suburb of LA. My Midwest HS was about as far from LA as the Earth is from the Moon but YMMV

My DW and I both graduated in the same HS class and live in the same town that we grew up in and went to HS. Our 50th class reunion is coming up this June and neither one of us has any interest in attending. We haven’t seen these classmates in over 45 years, why would we want to see them now 🤷🏻‍♂️
Very similar to DW and me. We met in 2nd grade, dated in HS, went to the same University, lived in our home town for the next 55 years and we still keep a foot in the home town. With 60th on the horizon, we are hopeful that we'll be able to attend. Our health issues are beginning to intrude. Hopefully nothing too serious, but if we're required to have anything "done" we may not be able to leave "home." I figure chances of attending the 70th are pretty slim, so - fingers crossed - we're pushing hard to get everything completed in time.

Wish us luck!
