Happy Birthday, George Harrison

I didn’t realize that GH was the principal writer of The Taxman. One of my favorite versions live in their old Liverpool club, Joe Bonamassa.

IIRC GH got a bit of help from JL on some of the verses.

In high school I remember thinking "All Things Must Pass" was the best post Beatles album release.
That summer one of my best friends shaved his head and hitchhiked up to San Francisco to join the Hare Krishnas.
Lasted about a week, fun times.

Also love another lesser hit. "Think for yourself". Great Beatles sound at the time.

One of George's on the White Album that I learned to play on the bass and sing: Savoy Truffle. The entire lyrics came off a box of candy. Apparently Eric Clapton was in on it somehow. On the surface, it's about candy rotting your teeth, but I've always figured it was about addiction. I lost my singing voice and got rid of my PA and bass, but picked up the ukulele. Apparently George loved the uke. I saw an interview of Tom Petty and George insisted he accept a gift of a ukulele... George had a trunk full that Tom could choose from, LOL!

Wow, I never heard anybody play the ukulele like that before! He’s playing it more like a regular guitar.

Hawaiian ukulele is like that. Lots of "lead" ukulele in the Islands.

I’m just used to mainly chord strumming with little picking. Played it myself as a kid.

George understood the diminished and augmented, and called them the naughty chords.

That’s an interesting piece on Indian music. I know nothing about it but I recall reading somewhere that it often uses just one chord (again, I’m ignorant so take that however).

It occurs to me that “Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond)” uses only one chord and also is a “round”, which most people know from learning songs like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” as kids. No wonder it’s a fun tune!

That's exactly what my ukulele playing sounds like :D

Seriously, I do play some chord melody that's not too horrible, but that Jake guy is a recognized uke rock star!
