He'll be hitting one hundred October first. Left the US Naval Academy ranked 60th out of 821. Married at 22, stayed with his wife for 77 years; she left this world and him in 2023. Submarine officer. Trained for nuclear service. Leading a maintenance crew he donned protective gear and was lowered into a reactor that had suffered partial meltdown for a 90 second stint (maximum "safe" exposure time) to assist in shutting the reactor down. Major player in Habitat for Humanity. not just as a face, but a worker, building homes. A good and admirable man.

He is someone who whether you agreed with his politics or not, IMO his integrity is beyond reproach.

It was cool getting to see him at the White House in the rose garden. His DW was the consummate hostess, serving us tea and crumpets.

Happy BD and many happy returns.

I got to meet former President Carter back in the late '90s or early 2000s on a Delta flight from ATL to BWI. He was apparently heading up there to go bird-hunting, according to the scuttlebutt on the plane. He and his entourage (including Rosalynn) got the whole first class section. There was an armed secret service agent with an ear-bud and a fanny-pack at their waist on the aisle about every 10 rows or so in the coach section.

After pushing back, the plane stopped and Mr. Carter got up and proceeded to shake hands with and introduce himself to every single person on the plane.

Disappointingly, he did not hand out the complimentary peanuts.

But I'm glad I got the chance to meet him and shake his hand. Definitely a class act.

Jimmy Carter is a great example of a person that lives his values. If there’s a heaven he will definitely be there. He sincerely cares about others and has dedicated his life to helping others.

An amazing life lived by an incredible individual. Happy Birthday!

I've been through Plains GA. Like much of that part of the country, which extends into SE AL, it's a tough place to grow up if you have ambitions beyond farming. Credit to him for getting beyond that, rising to the Presidency, and building a notable life after that.

Yes, he is one of a kind. It's too bad his lovely wife had to go before him to her final rest. They made a lovely couple and I can't imagine what it has been like for him to live without her.

Happy Birthday SIr.

If one traveled frequently enough to/from ATL they probably saw him on a flight walking the aisle shaking hands. He was constantly traveling. No idea about the entourage or what he had going on up front. I’ve always flown coach.

Very humble gentleman who has lived his faith every day of his life.
May God bless him every day of his life.
Happy Birthday!

Jimmy Carter exemplifies faith in action. He truly cares and it shows by what he says and what he does. And positive, always upbeat, and always a big, genuine smile! What a great example for us all to follow. :)

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but this video is an example of why I don't care about living to 100. Sad to see.

He decided to give up on the hospital and go on hospice care at home a year and a half ago. Then Rosalynn passed away. He just keeps hanging on. Though, I agree with you - from the video, just a shell of a person at this point.

However, there are folks 100+ who are in much better shape.
