Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day to all.
DH and I have shared 51 Valentines Day since we met. That's a lot of chocolate--lol. Although we don't give that much chocolate to each other now, those gifts go to our kids and grandkids❣️

My parents are both gone now, but they got married on Valentine's Day. My DMs birthday was the day before Valentine's Day. So my DF had to go out and buy her birthday card, anniversary card, and Valentine's Day cards at the same time every year. One trip a year to the Hallmark store.

I guess it was convenient for him.

It’s funny, we don’t go out for Valentines Day. We generally avoid all the fancy occasion dinners, not that we go out at night anyway. We have our own spontaneous calendar of celebrations.

Saint Valentine, Roman clergy, martyred on Feb 14 273 which became his saint’s day. In the Middle Ages his feast day became associated with courtly love.

We decided to avoid Valentine's Day crowd at the fancy restaurants, so we had our dinner at a very nice seafood restaurant on Thursday.
Same here. We don't go out for Valentine's Day. Plus no flowers this day, but randomly I get her flowers throughout the year. Much more appreciated.

...One morning after she woke up, a woman told her husband "I dreamed that you gave me a diamond necklace for Valentine's Day. What do you think it means? " "Maybe you'll find out tonight..." he said. That evening the husband came home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it to find a book entitled: The Meaning of Dreams..

Valentine's Day 2012. We came to Milwaukee for a week to see if we would want to move here. Urban living on the cheap. It was cold. We wandered into the Mason's Grill downtown, hoping to get a seat at the bar for happy hour. It was packed. There were 2 seats at the bar, far apart. A patron stood up and asked if we wanted to sit down. We said yes. He directed a few people to move so we could sit together next to them. Welcome to the Midwest. We came, we conquered.

Not on Valentines Day, but two times now we've gotten concert tickets for shows at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee. (Bob Dylan one time, the Violent Femmes the other) Both times I found out about the shows when they were almost sold out - just random single seats left.

Both times I was able to find two single seats in the same row so I bought them. Both times I asked the people between us if they'd be willing to shift over one seat so DW and I could sit together. Both times they were gracious enough to oblige.

We had a quiet Valentine's day, even though it was almost 50 years since our first date. DW was away helping with her mother's home care situation (which is IMHO a borderline disaster for many reasons) but hoped to return before Saturday. Unfortunately things came up that only she was willing to handle, so she had to push her flight back to return on Valentine's Day. We just ate good takeout and a quiet evening at home.

But fortunately, in a sense, we celebrated early. A couple of weeks ago we participated in a "couples scavenger hunt" contest in a nearby town. It was free to enter and they would provide a free dinner. I almost chose not to go because of the brutal cold, but DW really wanted to and changed my mind, and I am glad that we did. Even though we had to take pictures as "proof", which meant getting our fingers frozen, it was fun going around with DW and solving the contest puzzles. Our complimentary skills and interests work well in these types of things. And we won a dinner gift card for future use.

This sounds like something my DW might be interested in, but I suppose you have to own a smart-phone nowadays to be able to participate in something like that. Which then makes it something she would not be interested in. She said she'd rather wait until summer and go on a train or boat ride somewhere that offers those. Or maybe a murder-mystery dinner, but again, we'd have to go out of town, probably overnight for something like that.

We're going out to a nearby town for our Valentine's dinner tonight for soup, 6-ounce tenderloins, and baked potatoes. DW's favorite out-to-eat meal in our area. Our favorite place has this meal as a special on Sundays for $11.95 each... Or, we could BTD and go to the other steak restaurant a few miles farther away and pay $40 each for basically the same meal. We like the convenience of going to our favorite place, even if we do have to be there by 4:00 p.m. in order to be seated right away.

Edit: Dinner was great. It's up to $14 now. Haven't been there since November.
