Have you bought a new Vehicle lately? How much did it cost per pound?

2014 Mercedes Benz 450GL $6.42 bought used
2020 Mercedes Benz GLE 350 $7.47 bought used
2020 Tacoma Extended Cab 4x4 $9.58 bought new

I'll simply be interested in how many folks here have purchased new cars in the past 3 years.
We have only bought 2 NEW cars ever.... 1988 Mercury Topaz what a POS... and a 2012 VW Jetta still running flawless... Our NTU 2022 Silverado Was the 2nd most expensive thing we have ever bought...
2nd home was the 1st Truck ran about $6.50 a pound

New in 2025 ( it was a 2026) , I kept the tax in the price. 11.11 a pound.

In January last year I bought my first new car in 32 years. I paid 27k and have no idea what it weighs. It’s a Subaru Impreza.

Our last new vehicle purchase was in 1996 so I can’t play along.

2025 Subaru Impreza Curb Weight by Trim (lbs):
  • Base: 3,171 lbs (3,167 lbs with option package)
  • Sport: 3,249 lbs (3,280 lbs with option package)
  • RS: 3,275 lbs (3,323 lbs with option package)
So around $8.31 / lb. if yours was the Sport model. ($27K ÷ 3250)

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 used: $7.84/lb
2023 Volvo XC90 used: $11.43/lb

2023 Nissan Armada SL: 6,016 lbs.
Cost per pound new was $8.79.
Google says this is a good deal, but fails to factor in the weight of the MANY fill-ups ;)

My 2016 Focus RS I bought new, was about $11.15/lb.

Not exactly "lately" but at least it was new.

I bought my wife a new car in 2024. $19.79/lb. Has a twin-turbo V8 that requires premium gas and gets poor gas mileage. My favorite vehicle yet!

I'm about to buy a Chevy Bolt (used 2023 but only 9k miles) for $6.62 per pound.
My 2017 model was $8.37 per pound after the tax rebate.

I thought I'd revisit this concept I first heard of while reading The Millionaire Next Door.
Excellent book. I was first exposed to it in 1996 on a golf get away with one of my former business partners. He was reading it and worth about $20M at the time. I figured that it was a good book to read. I've probably given away 20 copies of it to young people who I saw promise in and thought that they would take the insight in the book and hopefully make it work for them.
Back to the question at hand. I typically don't buy new cars, except for my wife. She drives them for a decade and they look new when she is done. My everyday driver was purchased slightly used in 2023. Audi SQ8. It was $19.16 per pound. I've bought 5 other weekend fun cars since then. The most recent one, late last year was $5.32 per pound. 1957 Nash Metropolitan.

A Metropolitan weighed about 1800 lbs in that time frame and sold for around $1500. So that's less than a dollar/pound.

One year ca 1961? I rode to school in a Nash Metropolitan. A lady we knew took me to school each morning for $0.10 per ride. The lady was very proud of the fact that her car got (wait for it) 30 mpg in town! That's less than one cent/mile for fuel.

Paid cash for a 2025 Ford Ranger in March 2025 $12.66/lb.

My post was what I paid for the car in October of 2025. I wasn't even born yet when it was imported and sold new in 1957.
With respect to MPG, I have no idea for any of my fun weekend cars. I drive a different one every 2 to 3 days and don't worry about gas mileage.

Yeah, I caught that it was used (purchase in 2025).

I think we have a winner!!!
3,384 lbs. X $88.65 per pound = $299,991.60.

BTD indeed!

I'm not quite that spendy when it comes to vehicles. I've purchased 25 different vehicles in my life and the total cost of all of them combined is probably around a third of this one vehicle.

Nothing against this, though. You can't take it with you!

Many...cheaper than a decent cost of beef. (per lb)..fwiw. Bottled water is often more expensive than gasoline.
