Hearing Loss after Covid

The problem with going to an ENT in our area is that all appointments are weeks out, cannot get in to see an ENT in a timely basis.
Heck it takes me weeks to get into my PCP. (It might depend on the problem though IDK).

I know it can sometimes be difficult to get a PCP appointment, but single-sided hearing loss should be considered a medical emergency. If I knew that I could have saved my hearing by taking a course of prednisone earlier, I would have done anything- even going to an ER. I've found that many health care providers are unaware of this, so it's important for us to share this. There's a good reddit forum on SSHL

Extended use of Prednisone ruined my deceased DW's bone density. Her COPD was so bad, she took lots of it and over time, her bones were so bad, she split 4 vertebrae just from bending over her dressing table in the bathroom. This vertebrae had to be glued back together (horizontal breaks). Medicare would not approve any further use of Prednisone for her.
DH is hoping that he will only have to take 7 days worth of Prednisone. A person has to weigh the risk but it seems to me that using Prednisone for 7 days to avoid hearing loss is worth it.

Former ENT here - I'm not going to weigh in on any of this except to say that SSHL, stands for sudden sensorineural hearing loss , not single sided hearing loss. SSHL can in fact be bilateral and the treatment is prednisone and is considered a medical emergency/urgency. Failure to treat in a timely fashion can and does lead to litigation.

I have had 5 courses of Prednisone/Prednisone for my chronic and acute urticaria through the years and I would call that my miracle drug. It is fine to go out it for a short period of time. In my case, it stopped weeping of my skin and deathly itching.
