Dryer sheet wannabe
I'm richardsok.
Longtime investor and alumnus from the old Morningstar forum, so some of you will recognize the handle. Posted a brief while on Fido, but saw a lot of people were leaving and I didn't know why. Still active on the BigBang Investors forum, which is like a small club of about 30. Everyone is smart and everyone knows everyone else. Sometimes too well. Often feels like trying to run a clubhouse in a closet. But it seems to work.
Happy to introduce myself here; much wider exposure and I'm glad to see several veterans I recognize from forums and threads long past.
Anyway, I'm a long time investor. Somewhat successful at it, I guess. Retired going on twenty years now and feeling fine after two scary heart operations. (Hence, my handle.)
Now in my 70s, I tend to favor bonds/income/dividends over growth. Concentrate more on technical indicators than security analysis. I have nothing against analyses; I merely suck at it and found better success with disciplined charting of low-volatility securities. Wrote a book on the topic: “MEMOS From The Stock Trader's Notebook”. Got good reviews from my readers; all twelve of them.
Divorced once. Happily re-married to a Colombiana I met knocking around the Caribbean on a trip for scuba bums years back. She was much younger and lovelier than I deserved. She still is.
What else? Financially very comfortable, yada, yada. Lifetime voracious reader/book collector. Fly fisherman whenever I can slip off to some clear little stream. Amateur furniture-maker, usually with more ideas than craftsmanship, using the "do-it-better-on-second-try" system.
At this time (early April '25) I'm very heavy into precious metals, moderately into Pimco CEFs (isn't everyone?), very few equities and looking to increase exposure to preferred ETFs now that many have fallen down to 10% YOC. Downside: this market is so wildly volatile that the technical indicators I use are all but useless. It'll pass.
Well, that's about it. Howdy, folks. Glad to be here.
