Hi from north Georgia mountains

Hello and welcome. Did you choose rural GA for the cost of living? I'm strongly considering rural TN as a replacement for my wonderful place in Jupiter, FL. A bigger home has 1/3 the tax, 10% the insurance costs and other benefits.
Hey, if you want low property taxes, move to (wait for it) Hawaii! Lowest property taxes in the nation (as % of actual value). We pay less than $2K/year. Now a "few" other things are kinda expensive, so there's that...

I love TN too. Didn’t pick north Georgia specifically for the cost of living but instead for the way of life. The people are great, the seasons are beautiful and the pace is great. Also kids/grandkids are in ATL burbs.

GA typically shows up in top 10 locations for retirement. With planning, state income tax is $0 and many counties have property tax incentives for retirees which really helps. The reduced COL is just icing on the cake. Good luck on your consideration as leaving the warmth of Florida isn’t an easy decision.
