Holidays....big deal or just another day.

My step-daughter and her family are about an hour away so we may see them for an hour or so. We plan to fly our step-son down to see us sometime during the season but waiting to see his plans. Other than that it could be just the 2 of us. For the past 10 years it has mostly been just us with maybe a short visit from the daughter. If anything were to happen to my wife I would probably be on my own. The holidays used to be fun years ago but now they are pretty much just another day.

Just another day(s) for me. But the DW likes to decorate the house (inside and out) and cook...... soooooo. :)

I used to host both days and invite 20-30 people. I invited everyone that I knew was going to be alone besides my and my husband’s family.

Now it’s just me, my son and DIL. Since she works at a casino we usually celebrate on a different day if she’s working on the holiday. We have a fancy restaurant that we treat ourselves to on those days instead of cooking.

I still put up a small tree and decorate. In December I host 5 friends for dinner and we exchange small gifts.

My DW likes to decorate the house inside and out. The decorations don't matter to me. I'm fine with having a nice meal with family. We also invite any single people that may not have anyone to enjoy the day with.

For Christmas, we make homemade treats and give them out to neighbors. We usually prepare about 20 boxes or so. We also receive treats from quite a few neighbors. We like living in a community where people know each other and interact with one another.

We used to decorate inside and out for Christmas. But now we put up a smaller tree and a few decorations inside. We have my DD & SIL and our DGD over for Thanksgiving and on Christmas eve to exchange gifts, but not as much fanfare as it once was. No outside icicle lights,no lighted Santa, snowmen, reindeer, and trees in the yard, only a wreath on the door. It isn't like it was when we were younger making the rounds between our parents and seeing our siblings and their kids.
