Houses - How big is too big?

My preference was a 1/1 with a 4 car garage, but couldn't find anything close to that on the MLS ;)

My favorite saying is that I want a 1000 sq ft home with a 10-car garage. I haven't found it on MLS either.
I am not quite that, but do have a 2400 sq ft (ranch, single story) house with oversize 3 car garage and a 3500 sq ft detached garage. I get by with the space I have, but could always use more detached space for my old car hobby. The motorhome parking in the detached takes up about 800 sq ft. Rest is for cars, tools, storage and working area. I had the house built to my desired requirements.

A bit late but our cabin is a bit under 1000sq ft. Plenty for two of us but storage is an issue. Especially considering the size of our pantry increasing over recent years. We have two fairly large car/equipment ports to keep the huge amount of snow off.
We will be building a really large under bed drawer system very soon that will help a small amount.

We're about to wrap up our 6 month Winter stay in AZ in our ~350sqft 5th wheel (+ 6x8ft storage shed.) No problem with storage.

We have friends that live in their LQ horse trailers yr round, staying 4-5 months in Arizona. Don't think I could stand it. Maybe a couple months but any longer and id be renovating a 40'-60' semi trailer as an LQ to stay in

This is the weirdest thing we live in a metal house just under 1000 SF . When we retired we sold the big house and built this house . Our friends call it a mini house , but it is all we need . We bought a condo down on the Gulf 575sf and we find many people living there in the little beach condos . You really don’t need all that space . I have a big garage but I am cleaning junk out of there now.

We have a 3200 square foot home. It's at the size where, if you forget something on one level or the other, its staying there. You try to plan trips to parts of the house. Like if I am going to the office, can I drop things off in the playroom and pull anything we need up from dry storage.

We had to add a staircase from our deck because accessing our backyard took too long. Its a lifesaver.

But the stairs are killer. Been in this home a decade and wife and I are interested in retiring to a rambler with a walkout for guests downstairs.

We are at 4,000 sf. Walkout basement has family room, home office, exercise room, my bathroom, laundry and my bunker playroom. Upstairs has living room (never gets used), dining room (once a year), kitchen, breakfast nook, master bedroom and bath, guest bedroom and bath, and another bedroom that has never been slept in since we built the house 31 years ago. Attached garage is 30’x 32’ and houses 4 vehicles and yard tools. And my detached workshop at 450 sf.

Some extra space that we don’t need. But there is also some extra space that I like and use daily.
Ours sounds very similar. 3 car garage, and dang I am dreaming up how to build my outhouse. City says I can do a 14x14 20ft off the property lines. I have a shower we've never used since we moved in and we are a family of 5. BUT, when we get a dog, we will use it.
