20, unless I count Louisiana as 21...LOL!

(there may be a few more but my memory is getting bad)

I'm at about 24 (depends on how you count Gibraltar, Northern Ireland and a brief bus stop in Bosnia while traveling in Croatia - long enough to buy a sandwich at a roadside inn, so I'm saying it counts).

DW, who spent years as an international vagabond, is way higher - somewhere in the high 40s.

Currently 14 (15 if you count USA). Ukraine, Bermuda, Italy (twice), Austria (twice), Netherlands, Germany (twice), Hungary, Canada (3 times), France (twice), Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Switzerland, Luxembourg.

In April I'm heading to England. In December we are cruising to the Panama Canal which will add 6 more countries. If I could, it would be more, but DH isn't really up to traveling anymore.

What if you visited a country that no longer exists? Do you count it? (East Germany)
Of course! If it was legit when you visited, it counts. For example, I count the Panama Canal Zone in addition to the country Panama.

I did. I went to East Berlin when I was stationed in West Germany. Even spray painted my name on the wall at Checkpoint Charlie.

US, Canada, Mexico, Belize, Bahamas, Bermuda, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Dominican Republic, and Israel. I've also been to St. Thomas and Puerto Rico which are both US territories. I think that's it. We haven't done much foreign travel. I've been to Heathrow airport but never left there so that doesn't count.

I've been to 43 not including Iceland and Norway scheduled for next year already. We like to cruise, scuba dive and I was a Range Rider in the USAF for several years attached to various C5A flight crews. Also stationed in Germany for 3 years. Uncle Sam paid for a good bit of travel.

I have multiple visits too to several countries as well. The most frequent one would be Canada and that might be in the 100s.
If I have my count correctly, I have 9 visits to Canada (6 provinces) and 8 to Ireland. Next country on the list is England with four.

Lots of Asian countries from my road warrior days (Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia).

Most of western Europe (UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Vatican, Monaco, Greece, Turkey).

Some Central America and Carribean (Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Dominican Republic).

Not much in South America (only Columbia).

Never been to Africa. And oddly, I've never been to Canada.

Went onto countries-visited.com and according to that I'm at 41 countries, 17% of the world.

83 countries and territories. If I get out of the customs and immigrations, and the airport, I count it.

All 50 U.S. states, and DC.

I think we are at 11 and doubt we would get much past 20~25. We know what we like, and the really hot places are not it!!
I'll use Canada as an example. We have barely scratched the surface of that exploration.
We've been to Norway and Sweden, the UK, Scotland Wales Denmark Germany.
Once again we have seen next to nothing in those countries and are very likely to repeat.

Using the century traveler list I'm in the 50s, but without their exceptions I could around 48 or so. My goal is 100 plus all continents (missing one). I have been mapping out some pretty extensive travels, and it is doable, with a focus on Africa, eastern Europe/central Asia, and the rest of the Americas. Interestingly, you wait a couple of decades and former no-go zones are now good destinations, while others are now riskier due to the latest conflicts.

Do you count transfer airports. Is it counted if you stay overnight but never leave the airport?
I would count an overnight. Same day transfer is questionable.

Where did you go ? Would love details.
The latest trip was Egypt and Jordan with Viking. A couple days in Cairo, Giza, cruise the Nile, Day flight to Abu Simbal, then to Jordan for the Dead Sea, Petra, and Jerash.

Texas was its own country for a while. But had to be bailed out by the US when Texas ran out of money in the 1840's. I think they would still like to be their own country though. Then they could control who moves in.
Yes. How DO we count Texas for this poll. It was once part of Mexico. IIRC it then became the Republic of Texas. Then the USA state of Texas, then the CSA state of Texas and then back to the USA state of Texas. "It's a whole other country."

If you visited when it was part of Mexico, when it was the Republic of Texas and again when it was part of the USA then I would think you deserve to count it three times.

While I'm enjoying the discussion about Texas, there are many others that are in a similar state :) California, Florida are two that come to my mind. They do act like different countries.

I'm seeing several that return to places they have been several times. Interesting to me that I like to see new places, but there are several that I love to return again and again. We visit FLA Keys every Jan, been to Scotland and England several times, heck even lived in Germany for 10 years. Sometimes it is comforting to revisit known places and sometimes exciting to try new places. We visited Finland and Estonia last year.

I keep adding new entries as I read these posts and am reminded of them. Up to 30 something I think.
