How to paste a spreadsheet

How can I copy and paste the values displayed on a spreadsheet to a forum page?

I am trying to illustrate the food labeling problem that I mentioned yesterday.

I use Vista's Snipping tool exclusively -- and simply ignore the red border.. As in this:

Or in my case (after programming my MS Ergonomic Keyboard 4000) it is found at "My Favorites" button #5.

you can also just very simply use this... shift PRT SCR and that copies your screen to memory and then open something up like word and paste it in (Control V or right click the mouse and select paste).

A "Screen" capture is not the same (nor as useful) as a "Selective" capture.

I usually do ctrl/prnt scrn, and then paste it into powerpoint- that way you can use the picture toolbar to quickly crop, resize, etc. Then save as a .jpg picture and you should be good to go.

This may be a bit neanderthal, but it works for me...

A "Screen" capture is not the same (nor as useful) as a "Selective" capture.

The snipping tool sounds much more useful than a screen capture and edit. I found a version for XP called Snippy. I wish you could just paste the snip into the text body of the post but you have to save it and attach. Here is a snip:

Shift+drag makes a rectangular section. Right click allows you to save as a jpg:

And for Mac users...

The key-combo:

Command-Shift-3 will take a screen shot

Command-Shift-4 will take a selective screen shot, just click/drag over the area you want.

You get a nice old-fashioned "camera shutter" sound for feedback. Each saves it as a file to your desktop, named sequentially. Those commands have been consistent across every version of the Mac going back into the previous century.


Here's a few more tips/tricks from the HELP section (I didn't know or forgot about the control key to go direct to clipboard).

Screen shots are saved as files on the desktop. If you want to put the screen shot in the Clipboard (rather than create a file) hold down the Control key when you press the other keys. You can then paste the picture into a document.

When you're selecting an area after after pressing ⌘-Shift-4, you can modify the selection by doing one of the following:

To move the selection rectangle, hold down the Space bar.

■
To constrain the selection rectangle horizontally or vertically, hold down the Shift key.

■
To resize the selection rectangle around the center of the selection, hold down the Option key.

What I earlier called "Preferences" is actually "Options." Clicking on that gives a few choices among which are "Always copy snip to Clipboard" and "Prompt to save snips."

The "Save" screen allows for several formats and is much easier than embedding it in a third program.

I did find that you can't use Snipping to capture itself. I also found, by re-visiting the "Options" menu, that I could get rid of that pesky red outline by changing the color.

Okay, I'll bite. How did you do it without creating a jpg (or whatever) image? I have never been able, for example, to accomplish this procedure with the "cut & paste" method.

I used to be able to drag/drop some clips from another window (browser window, or other program) into the reply post. That was the bee's knees, but I don't think that works anymore.
