I want to make sure I'm interpreting this correctly.

For 2026, the HSA contribution limit is $4,400 if you have HDHP coverage just for yourself and $8,750 if you have "family" coverage. Does having coverage for my wife and I count as "family" for this purpose?

I know there is also a $1,000 extra contribution I can make for being 55+. My wife could do the same but only if she has her own HSA. But for my account, can I put in $8,750 + $1,000 since we are both on the insurance plan?

Yes, that counts as family and your numbers are correct. Also, I opened an HSA for my wife once we were 55+ just for that $1000 extra/makeup. It's really easy to do.

Yes, $8,750 for you both plus an extra $1,000 for you in your account AND an extra $1,000 for your wife but must be in her own, separate account. Super easy to do at Fidelity.
