DH has his Medicare Part D with Humana. He just got a bill from Humana for $31.80 for "Reprocessed Claims". Evidently when DH recently filled prescriptions he was not charged enough. He has never gotten a bill like this before. The bill says: "This will be your only notice...we will not send this account to a collection agency or make any further attempt to collect. " Seems strange to me. Anybody else got such a bill from Humana or any other Part D insurer?

Wouldn't you owe the pharmacy and not part D?
Not if Human had already paid the Pharmacy their part. The insurance company likely paid the Pharmacy more money than they were supposed to get when the claim was originally processed. So Humana is now looking for that to be re-imbursed from the customer.

For $31.80, I'd probably just pay it. But it's weird that Humana made the statement that they did. If it's not paid, nothing further will happen, it would seem. I guess they are saying, pay if it you like and want to make right. But we aren't going to penalize you if it isn't done. I guess that's good customer service.

I have over $800 that I think my insurance company overpaid for a recent prescription to Walmart. I ended up only paying a small amount when my deductible had not yet been met, so I was expecting the much larger amount. I'm waiting for my insurance company to figure this out and send me a bill for it.

I think my policy had me overpay my first prescription this year and I have had 4 since where I pay nothing...

Going to get another this week... will see what happens..

DH says he will just pay it. If it were me I would call Humana to get an explanation but DH hates to talk on the phone.

A phone call certainly would not hurt if for no other reason than to be sure it's not a scam.

Yeah, this does sound very strange - strange enough for a phone call IMHO but YMMV.

I totally agree about the phone call, but DH will not do it.......... He says life is too short to hold on the phone.

Maybe see if there’s a payment portal on the Humana website. Phone calls to large companies can be painful these days.
I actually feel like a freak talking to the stupid voice things because they say "I'm sorry I do not understand" no matter what I say. . . I start talking louder and slower hoping this will help and it never does. . . I just wait for them to give up and get me a real person (who understands me perfectly fine).

Sooo, you can do it!!!

Heck, I do most of DWs calls.. she hates doing them... I do not want to waste money, even small amounts...

ETA... yea, go to Humana website and see about paying as a guest... there should be info on the bill that you input and it will pop up if it is a legit bill... otherwise it could be a scam.

DH is a grown person, I am NOT going to make his calls for him. I have to do that for my 94 year old mother with Alzheimers and I am not doing it for my perfectly capable husband. Doubtful it is a scam, too much info on the bill about his exact medications, etc. Even if it is a scam he is just out $31.

Dynamics of partner relationships are complicated. What I have found over 55 years of partnership is that the dynamics change.

DW is becoming more dependent on me as her health deteriorates. She hides it (until she can't) that she is overwhelmed by her health issues.

In theory, I'm likely in worse shape than she is, but I've adapted. She is struggling right now. SO, I'm picking up what she finds hard to do - like being her own advocate with her many doctors.

I can play the devils advocate, or "bad cop" if I have to. I do her communications through the health-portal (heh, heh, I know the terminology and all of her meds and conditions, etc.)

She has been the strong one in the past when I was struggling. Now, I gladly pick up the load and advocate for her.

Two people are much more formidable than one when it comes to dealing with any issue - even a disputed bill.

I spend many many hours each week taking care of my 94 year old mother and I refuse to take on any thing else. My husband is perfectly capable of taking care of himself.

I hope he helps to pick up some of your load since your plate is full. DW and I were fortunate that when each of our parents (all 4) went through dementia, it was sequential (my dad, then her dad, they my mom then her mom). DW and I shared the duty for each one as needed. When one got too stressed to "deal," the other was ready and willing to step in. Of course, all of this was while we were raising children, so it got complicated. Blessings to you and may you be rewarded for taking care of your mom.

If Humana paid the pharmacy-and paid $31.80 too much, then Humana would be billing the pharmacy for the refund, not you. Also, you would never get just "1" notice stating you will be sent to a collection agency if not paid-that would come after a few billing cycles. I would not pay, even if it is only $31.80 because something is not right. (I was in medical billing for 35 years and I always told patients never just pay a bill-know for sure what you are paying and why, and make sure insurance carrier has paid their portion according to the rules and fee schedule).

Humana would not seek a refund from the patient if the patient did not receive the payment. They would seek a refund from the pharmacy because they received the money.

Hey badatmath (me too)-when you call a carrier all you have to said is "representative" just like that-you might have to say it a few times, and then you will be able to speak with one.

Husband has already paid the bill, he did not want to mess with it and hung up on the call to Human after on hold for a while. Not how I would have handled it but it was his bill.
