Hurricane Milton

Forecasters monitoring new tropical development as it moves across Atlantic toward Caribbean.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami are keeping their eyes on a tropical disturbance located several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, which currently has a medium 40% chance of developing into at least a tropical depression over the next seven days. I may be wrong but systems that are already that far north usually don’t make it into the Gulf.

Milton was so bizarre. It was so close offshore to us that we got a nice two inch rain over 30 hours from it before it developed, and then it organized, promptly headed east and turned into a monster! All the way across the Gulf!

Checking in. I never lost power and no building damage (a few issues the HOA can deal with) but still have no internet. Cellular was pretty bad but getting better and I finally decided to use my mobile hotspot (props to Mint for adding data to customers in the impacted area) and get online on a real computer. I am right across from the Trop and seeing the shredded roof is still a bit shocking and surreal (especially with the parking full of linemen and tanker trucks). I have a couple acquaintances that lost roofs, one with water damage from water intrusion through the foundation, and there is extensive tree and fence damage but overall I am impressed and surprised by the relative lack of significant damage to structures overall from Milton. It's been a rough few weeks for my community and will take a while to recover but we need to be thankful that we dodged a bullet even if it was a rather painful grazing. I do miss "normal" but am grateful that I suffered no real loss... maybe a bit of survival guilt seeing what other's are dealing with.

The tracks are all over the place and none of them coming anywhere near the US (as of right now).
