I Bought a Refurbished Win 11 Computer

A week or so ago bought a refurbished MSI machine w/win11. Put up with win 11 fro a few days just to see what it is all about. Did not load any af my stuff on it. Had to register w/ mothersoft.
It was full of bling and stuff useless to me.
Nuked the whole thing. Killed off the mothersoft account.
Installed Linux mint. All is pleasant and no hassles. Runs great.

Apparently, there are ways around the "requirement" to have a Microsoft account for the login. But the process is not simple, and most users would just succumb to Microsoft's whims.

It was because of this that I was grateful I could upgrade my six year-old Windows 10 Pro PC to Windows 11 Pro. My local account transferred over in the "upgrade". Oh sure, Microsoft tried to trick me into using an online Microsoft account, but I was able to easily bypass that.

If all I needed was Internet access for browsing, emails, and online accounts, I would go with a Linux OS and bypass Windows completely. Unfortunately, I still have several applications I use I cannot run on Linux, nor have a suitable substitute. But our backup PC does have Linux Mint installed.

Nearly the same. Manjaro linux with Gnome desktop on a used Dell Optoplex-5050 i5-7600T micro. I don't miss Windows.

My refurb Thinkpad T15 gen 2 blew out the motherboard due to excessive heat. It wouldn't even post the BIOS, then the fan went crazy, black screen. Oh well you win some you lose some.
