wait for my building remodel plans to be complete ?

How long are you keeping the money for? More accurately, when do you need it?

in about 2 months i will need some and the rest as construction progresses

Put it in a money market and earn your $150 interest.

I have been getting 3.5% for a long time now at a local bank.
Liquid. Virtually no strings attached. I made one call yesterday
and found a similar (local) bank paying 3.75% also liquid, but
requiring you to open a checking account. However, the checking
account is no fees/free checks, etc. I am trying to decide if I want
to screw around for an extra .25%. OTOH, we're talking 125K,
so it may be worth my time.

I am terrible at this, but I wonder if you can 'haggle' with your current bank? I would think they would want to keep your $ and loyalty, and avoid a few $ in paperwork closing the account.

Couldn't hurt to ask?

I am certain they would not do it (obviously I'm not too shy to ask) :)
If I could find 4% with liquidity I would move it. My personal decision date
is October 12 as I have a CD maturing then and that cash will need a home
also. Maybe the hotly sought after 4% MM will arrive by then.
Could happen.

John.

I assume GMAC Demand notes are still closed to new accounts except for current stock (?or bond?) owners.
They're paying 4.5 on their MM, maybe you can qualify to open an acct with them. It's not FDIC insured, but the interest rate is good.

after thinking about it, i guess i would leave my total savings in it.

and transfer funds out only to make bills and use a direct deposit to keep my payroll going into it.
