It probably took me longer than I would have preferred since I switched to a more "conservative" route in investing after the 2000 crash. Turned 54 this past May and plan of FIRE next summer. Make almost $100K/year and have a military/VA pension (and can start collecting a small FERS pension when I'm 62). I know my net worth will fluctuate along the way...rent is due tomorrow lol..., but having guaranteed income streams makes the decision to FIRE somewhat easier than most. THANK YOU to everyone on this site for your advice, guidance, and insight along the way. Cheers!

Congratulations! Building wealth is like a marathon. It don't matter how long it takes, crossing the finish line is an accomplishment.

And what's even better is that all of the OP's Net Worth is in Investible Assets.
Often times folks have $500k in equity in their principal residence which is definitely part of NW, but often isn't available to spend in retirement...

Thank you everyone for the replies! Btw, I honestly don't like the new layout of this site. Cannot figure out how to quote someone's post directly with a reply, which is what I liked to do in the site's previous format. Guess I'll figure it out at some point, but it was fine the way it was. Another "solution when there was no problem"?

Jimbo - If you just hit Reply under the post you want to quote, it comes up like this. Is that what you want(ed) to do?

I'm figuring some of it out. Other things, not so much yet. Is there a tutorial or set of instructions anyplace?

Congratulations!

What I have discovered:
Hit Reply to quote one person, +Quote if you have multiple folks you want to quote/reply too

Yes...exactly! I guess my eyesight missed the "Reply" button. Much appreciated :)

And that makes sense now. I didn't want to come across as a "get off my lawn" individual, because I tend to embrace new technology/message board formats/etc. But I've never seen a layout like this before. Thanks everyone for the tutorial!

Sweet!!! And congrats on hitting a big milestone.

And share your sentiment about having a guaranteed income stream making the decision to FIRE easier. Have a similar situation. Second only to marrying my college sweetheart … FIRE’ing at 57 was best decision I ever made.

Enjoy 😊

I also forgot to mention the reason FIRE will be next year (as opposed to now) is due to the "Rule of 55", which I wouldn't have had any clue about w/o this forum. Knowing I can tap into my 401K, w/o penalty, in the year I turn 55, makes the decision that much more solid.

Way to go! Such a relieving feeling. Keep up the great commitment and patience
