Ed Latimore's channel somehow found its way into my YouTube algorithm. He's a guy who grew up in the projects; became a successful boxer until he was knocked out in the first round; and then went on to earn a degree in physics. He talks a lot about the psychology of poverty, but also about things like street cred. His observations that I've viewed are cogent and insightful. Here's a sample.

Interesting, he certainly has the experience to add to his positions. I'll have to check out more of his videos later.

I know exactly what he's talking about in that first video; the poverty mindset is a powerful trap for those caught up in it. I had an epiphany when I was 21 that I did not need to be a product of my upbringing, and I made a decision to be the person I chose to be regardless of what had happened up to that point. It was a singular moment in time and I still remember the day it happened. That mental switch made all the difference in the world to me and changed the course of my life.

Change IS possible and it's usually from within. Opportunity is great, but "deciding" to change, to be "different" is the key IMO. This guy seems to have gotten it. I'll watch more.

Thanks for sharing, Mr._Graybeard.

I not sure if this guy is right. I am a child of immigrants from a poor country and from what I’ve seen of these immigrants, nobody could pinch a penny than they can. They save quite a lot.

Watched three of his videos. On the third one he says his buddy is Flemlo Raps. Another YouTuber I enjoy. His channel talks about "helping men discover their purpose by intersecting sports and self improvement". Lots of great, fair-minded, stories about athletes that have struggled.
