If we add one more video streaming service, what should it be?

We currently have Netflix, Prime, and PBS Passport. We don't watch Prime much (those damn ads), but watch Netflix and PBS Passport a lot. We generally prefer drama over comedy. We also enjoy international shows with subtitles. Generally prefer TV over movies. Police procedurals, spy thrillers are some of our favorites, but we're also suckers for good dramas such as This is Life.

Recommendations for another service to add that isn't wildly expensive?

TIA!

You need Apple TV for Slow Horses. It's a great spy show although there is humor it's dark humor and it is definitely not a comedy.
Do you watch any of the British shows? If not you might try BritBox or Acorn. You could try one and then the other. I just add them to my Prime account and it's easy to then discontinue when I want.

We rotate through them as the promo deals come up. Usually only paying a few dollars for a few months service. Honestly we haven’t found one that we would stick with long term. We find that we both watch free YouTube because its addresses our micro interests (photography, biking, archeology, travel) better than anything else.

Roku is offering a bunch of 2 month deals right now for National Streaming Day starting at 99c. I will probably get Starz for $1.99 so I can watch Outlander but I prefer to get them direct from the provider so I checked their website and they're offering 3 months for $5. I vaguely remember some people had previous problems ordering through Roku or Prime, just can't remember what the problem was though.
Here's the list if interested

I watch HBO pretty often, for movies and original series. Hacks is running now, and white lotus just wrapped up.

I temp subbed to apple for severance, but I do also want to try murder bot.

MHZ Choice might fit your needs. It's mostly foreign shows from all over with subtitles. I have never used it but read some good things from those that have. $8 for a month, $80 for a year.

Another vote for cycling between Britbox and Acorn TV since OP likes police procedurals.

Sign up for one, watch everything you want, then cancel & move on to the other.

I would go with Apple TV. Not only are the production standards the highest out there--everything they produce is in 4K Dolbyvision and Dolby Atmos sound--but they have a great selection of dramas, movies, and comedies. There are no ads.

HBO Max has a lot to offer. Apple TV has great shows. The Hulu, ESPN+, Max bundle is an option. Or they do Hulu, ESPN+, Disney + as a bundle

Our core streaming services are Netflix, which we get from T-Mobile, and HBO Max, which we get from our HOA contract with Xfinity. T-Mobile also gives us Apple TV+, which has good but limited programming. HBO Max is currently reducing its catalog.

We get other streaming channels when they are on sale, watch all the episodes of a few programs we find interesting, and cancel when the trial period ends. BritBox, Acorn, Paramount, Peacock, History Vault so far. Also the Hulu Disney bundle. They all have some interesting shows but not enough for a longer term commitment.

Go ad free on Prime fo $3/month. World of difference! Best money I've ever spent.

With Amazon Prime Video can you go ad free for a couple of months and then revert back to ads?

Yes. Their cancel is pretty simple.

We have Amazon Prime and pay the wretched $3 month to remove the ads. We also pay for Youtube ad-free @ $16/month since we watch a lot of the tubes. Can't stand the ads.

Thanks, Irishgirly. We do love British shows, and have been thinking about BritBox or Acorn. And good idea re: adding to Prime account...

Yes, I just started paying to go ad-free on YouTube. I watch a lot of maker videos and physical therapy videos on YouTube.

Tubi surprises me. Yesterday I watched The Gaelic King for free.

While I was reading your OP, Britbox immediately jumped to mind.
I don’t have it, but plenty of readers in this forum have expressed how much they enjoy it in other threads.
