I'm Done!! Today was my last shift.

Not that it matters or feels different in any way at all, but today is actually my retirement day. As of 5pm I will be officially retired. My work family is having my retirement party tomorrow evening so that should be fun. Hopefully they spend a lot of time telling my wife how wonderful I am.

Brilliant. Congratulations Steve. You worked in an area in which you helped a great deal of people in very real and tangible ways. A nice, long break is richly deserved!

Incidentally, you are required to show up for forum duty at 9am sharp tomorrow

Congratulations and welcome to the dark side!

I worked my final shift today, 9am-1pm. My last day officially is June 8 but I have no more shifts scheduled and don't plan to pick up any so I am done. I'm retired. I made it! It was a bit emotional walking out the door knowing I won't ever be there again as a doctor at least. I may stop in and visit but that's it. On to the next phase of life.
I felt that when I finished High School, but had to get a job.
Felt that way again when I finished my Army gig, but had to get a job.
Then again when I finished college, but had to get a job.
When I retired from my job I felt blessed.
So if you’ve made this far… you are blessed.
Enjoy and congrats

PaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaRTY!!!!!!!

It is a very odd feeling when you walk out the door. I did after 25 years. Only two other people knew that it was my last day and I had sworn them to secrecy. Plus a few colleagues in other cities.

I just wanted to leave quietly with no fanfare. I do not regret doing it this way.

Congratulations! Now a strange new horizon presents itself - yet there are familiar challenges and routines. Finding and nurturing the community one needs to keep us engaged and active in is the first challenge.
