I'm Putting My Printer on Probation

I think touch screen or not is a personal preference. I do like the touch screen more on my Epson. But I'd rather have the Brother as a printer because it handles the ink clogging better, I think. Worth the trade off.

Is the Brother 4535 available at Costco? I didn't think so.

Did you buy your Brother printer at a Costco warehouse in person or by mail? I got mine by mail. I then found out that the price dropped within 30 days at Costco so was able to get a refund for the price difference. One benefit of Costco shopping.
I ordered it from Costco. I actually get it tomorrow. BUT ... I was looking around locally and saw the 4535 on sale for cheaper than I got the 4345 from Costco. So I purchased the one locally from Office Max a 10 minute drive away. I will return the 4345 unopened to Costco the next time we go. so all good.

So, might start a thread... but best friend and oldest sister are both wanting a new printer....

I have suggested a B&W laser... cheap... it looks like you can get some for less than $100....

Any suggestions?

I must say that this MFC-J4535DW is way faster than my Color Laser was, and it wakes up a lot faster too. I think it is a keeper. I also like the Color touch screen for setups. I did have one issue with it, not the printer, the magenta cartridge was leaking and when I opened it it dripped on my desk. after cleaning it, I took it back to the store and they gave a complete set of XL cartridges for my trouble, so not all bad. I got the ink of the desk with alcohol.

I sold my old MFC-9970CDW laser today on FB Marketplace. I am so glad to get rid of it as it weighed a ton!

HP Inkjets are the best, in my opinion. Just be sure and get one that’s compatible with HP Ink - the ink subscription service.

HP OfficeJet 8015e All-in-One Printer w/ bonus 6 months Instant Ink through HP+

This printer is available for $99.99 thru HP and Amazon

Looks like you found a gret deal. Plus the added bonus of touch is nice too.

I got an all in one (copy, scan and print). I now scan more than I print. A laser is great if you don’t use it much since the ink doesn’t dry out.

I just put in what might be the last toner cartridge in our trusty Canon MF4350d. That is the oldest printer, and I use the scanner more than print or copy functions.

These days I'm sending what few print jobs are necessary to the Brother DCP-L2550DW upstairs.

EasySurfer: I have to tell you this printer is brilliant! I am so happy you started this thread. It literally knocks spots of my previous Brother Laser 9970 CDW, which was not a cheap printer. even after 1 day of pretty good use, I would recommend my J4535 InkVestment printer. for $229 one cannot go wrong.

Thanks again for all the work you put into the comparison.

ShokWaveRider,

I'm glad that the printer is working out well for you! For $229, that printer is a great price! Now if there ever comes a time to upgrade(though I don't see that happening anytime soon) my Brother J4345 printer, I know what to keep in mind.

How well do the print out of photos look on your new J4535 InkVestment? I remember that was one thing you were looking at when printer shopping. In fact, if I was looking to upgrade, that one area I think the one I have couple improve on. It does a good job but not as well, in my opinion as the Epson which I'm about to send to the bench once I used up the current supply of ink.

That is the only thing I have not done in any earnest yet. The colors look fine on all the stiff I printed so far. I have some photo paper and will test it later on. I have had a lot of other printing to do lately and need to get that done first. I will let you know how it goes. I think it has the same engine as yours so I do not see it being any better than you have experiences. I am mostly enamored with the speed at which it wakes up and prints. My laser used to take about a minute or so to initialize when printing for the first time on any given day.

Okay. I was just curious. Wasn't a special request so no rush or anything. I didn't research your model enough to see if printing a picture was any higher quality than what I have or not. I know that the higher model INKvestments are supposed to have a higher photo quality print.

As for speed, I know my Brother Inkvestment is a speed racer!

EasySurfer:

I printed a "Normal" colour photo this morning on the J4534. while it is not up to the quality of a die sublimation dedicated photo printer, it is more than acceptable IMHO. As a comparison, I think it is 100% better than my previous MFC-9970CDW Color Laser printer, which is all I have to compare it with at this juncture. But I have owned and used a quality Pixima Photo printer in the past and it is definitely not up to the tandard of a dedicated photo printer.

But again, it makes up for it with speed, a much lighter weight and versatility.

I have a Brother multi function printer which is about 10 years old.

I try to minimize printing. Not the cost so much, it’s the aerosolized ink that I want to avoid. Laser printer toner is also thought to be bad.

I use the scanning a lot. Various documents I get, if I need to keep them, it’s better for me to scan them than file the paper somewhere. If I name the scanned file descriptively, it’s much easier to retrieve later than the piece of paper.

I think about upgrading once in awhile. Maybe print some photos. But haven’t really felt the urge even to use commercial printing services.

Scanning is the best use and unless there are better scanners with very reliable OCR to make the scans fully searchable, don’t see the need to upgrade it either.

More than acceptable is good :) . Thanks for trying this out.
