Since some people think it is dry around here, I thought I would mention a charming little book that I happened across in a B&N this weekend. "The Hedonism Handbook: Mastering The Arts Of Leisure And Pleasure" by Michael Flocker.

This isn't an illustrated how-to. Instead, it is more of a manifesto or inspirational book, as well as having definite entertainment value. I haven't gtten more than half way through the book, but I already find myself slowing down my usual reading pace to think through and savor the ideas presented. A sample quote:

"BURIED PLEASURES - WHAT USED TO BE FUN

Whatever happeed to the three-martini lunch? Or for that matter, whatever happened to lunch? What was once an assumed part of the working day has all but vanished as increasing numbers of Americans find themselves eating out of sad, little Tupperware coffins at their desks, or even worse, in the car. Dinner seems to be hanging on, but for a large number of people lunch has been reduced to little more than a biological pit stop."

Naturally, the author has suggestions for correcting such imbalances... ;)

It also includes interesting little tidbits of info, such as the fact that it is illegal to have sexual relations with a porcupine in the state of Florida.

This is obviously not the sort of thing you want to be seen reading at your desk, but I would recommend the book.

Not affiliated, yadda, yadda...

Hey!!!!!!!   I resemble that remark. :-/

The shorter the lunch, the easier I get outta here... man, that sounds dreadful.
