IRS USPS Rant

I'm sure USPS is far from perfect, but I just don't see much issue where we are. We know both our carriers by name and they always let us get our mail even if they are shoving mail in the mail slots.

Our biggest issue is having a couple or three cards come back each Christmas as undeliverable.
That's a good deal. In this neighborhood, I have seen several mail persons delivering. They are all contract employees and come and go. I have seen a few with a headset on talking to somebody via wireless to their phone while sorting mail to stick in the boxes. It's pretty loose here,

People line up at Christmas to be sure to give a small gift (regulation of $20 or less) to our mail carriers at the building.

I like bananas, and I'm always amazed that I can get a pound of bananas from somewhere in South America for the cost to mail a letter anywhere in the US. It's also pretty amazing that one organization nearly visits every residence six days a week. No one would build that as a business model, but it sure is a nice service, even if it's definitely not perfect. The informed delivery is pretty amazing though.

We have cluster boxes with 25 or so mail slots located strategically somewhere nearby. No visiting houses by postmen around here.

Our mail lady stops by my workshop (when the garage door is open) on her way up our driveway when she has oversize pieces to deliver. We talk several times a week during spring, summer, fall. She always asks what I’m making in the shop. Nice lady, we always have a great chat. Made her a cutting board last fall.

I find the opposite - in FL. I've had 3 different carriers in the 20 years at my current home, and they are all lovely and about "six-sigma" perfect.
I cannot remember the last time something went missing inbound or out. Every now and then I get a piece of junk mail stuck on one of my pieces, but it's meant for a neighbor.
I have a small business, so I've also sent and tracked thousands of first-class packages over the years, and my need to file a claim or investigate a missing item is super rare, even then, nine times out of ten, it turned up.
Glad you’re having a good experience in FL. We live in a fairly new area that has grown exponentially but still only has one USPS location. Staffing very inconsistent.
