Jardiance 10 Mg Tablet $830

So my cardiologist just prescribed Jardiance for my A1C. Is there anyway suggestion to lower the drug price? I think next year the pricing will drop but not soon enough so I try Costco using good Rx but still $650! Thank you
Have you tried buying it in Canada? I recently started buying a particularly expensive drug from a reputable online Canadian pharmacy called Insulin Outlet. Not withstanding their name they sell a broad line of drugs. The price was considerably less and it was the exact name brand drug as I was buying here in California. You contact them and let them know which pharmacy in the US has your prescription and they then contact the pharmacy and have the prescription transferred. My prescription was with Walgreens and the transfer went very through very quickly. It’s criminal we pay so much for the same drugs that other countries pay far less for. One word of warning is some pharmacies may refuse to transfer the prescription outside the country although most will. It really depends on the individual pharmacy. If this happens to you just transfer your prescription to another local pharmacy. If Insulin Outlet carries your drug they can advise you. They are very competent and have excellent customer service. Good Luck!

If you want to check on price and availability of your drugs in canada, google pharmacy checker, type in the drug and it should give you names and prices of different canadian pharmacies you can order from. make sure the pharmacy is CIPA approved.

I wish you could do the same for labor as you could do for drugs. I would love to get me some $2/hr labor to do this sheetrocking for me in the USA. Could be one reason drugs are cheaper in some other countries...

@latexman good point! Not sure but the cardiologist wants me to try a month for possible side effects. So according to him Jardiance has less side effects and more effective.

My spouse has been taking Metformin for decades without noticeable side effects. Apparently some people do experience digestive symptoms but often those go away after the initial adjustment period. The worst possible side effect is lactic acidosis, which is rare but more likely if you have kidney or liver problems or "conditions affecting oxygenation," which IMHO could include COVID-19 or possibly excessive aerobic exercise.

Did your cardiologist tell you WHAT the side effects of Jardiance are? Might want to investigate, they appear to include proneness to certain kinds of infections: Jardiance: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects & Warnings - Drugs.com

The doctor should have told you about that because it means you should pay careful attention to hygiene "down there" while on this drug.

Also be aware that the older you are, the more likely it is that a UTI could result in "delirium" as a symptom, which can open a whole can of worms, especially if you end up in the hospital:

Here's a comparison of Jardiance and Metformin at Drugs.com:

And another one at a different website:

Jardiance does appear to have benefits for other health conditions than T2D, more so probably than Metformin.

Try Marks Marine Pharmacy in Vancouver, BC. canshipmeds.com They show generic 10 mg tablets from India at $119 for 100. Generic 25 mg tablets are $129.99 for 100. They probably have a $15 shipping fee from India. I bought the generic equivalent of Farxiga from them last year and saved a lot of money over Farxiga in the USA. Now that Medicare Plan D coverage maxes out at $2,000 a year and I have another expensive prescription I just buy everything at the local Walgreens through my Plan D insurance. Marks was great to deal with. A legit storefront pharmacy that is run by real people you can call and talk to. All I did was send them a copy of my prescription and they called me and we talked a bit and everything went smoothly. I was very satisfied with them.

Yeah I was on it (now Farxiga) for heart health (off label, I think). I THINK it's helping me lose weight but I'm w*rking at that, so hard to tell.

Not sure if my lower A1C (now normal) is a benefit of the drug or the diet I'm on. In either case, I'll take it.

Switch to Farxiga was strictly due to my insurance company's formulary no longer listing Jardiance.

Patent has just expired it seems, generic should be available soon, as per new items, it is less than a dime a dose in some countries.

Yeah, according to this site

both Jardiance AND Farxiga expired last month.

Before running out and asking for the generic, be aware it takes a while to gain approval for the generic version. Here's a "long-winded" site about the process. Major drug companies often find ways to extend their exclusivity by months to years beyond expiry.

Not soon enough per the article from above...

the generic likely won’t hit the market until 2029.

Oh.... I just paid $860 for my 3 month supply.. wish they would have hurried up with those cheaper drugs for medicare... no reason to delay it but they did..

I don't suppose it matters what my first 3 months cost (or the 2nd) etc. It will be "free" by year's end as I will easily reach the $2000 total (between Farxiga and Eliquis)! Most other scripts are nearly trivial by comparison. Still, I give thanks that the meds that cost a fortune are available. I actually need them.
