Again I ask for advice unrelated to FIRE. My keyboard keeps repeatiiiiiiiiiiiiig the same letterrrrrrrrrrrs. I had to correct this ssssssssssssssssseveral times to make ittttttttttttttttt legible. Any ideas?

Tried shaking out keyboard. Nothing seems stuck. Can be any key that repeatttttttttttttttts.

Unless there is emotional attachment to this keyboard, you can pick up a nice ergo one for 25 bucks or less.... :-[ The only thing you can really do is take each key off and clean underneath, but it may be internal so that may not help.
 
BTW, did you know the keys pop right off? If it's particular keys are are sticking, you can start with them....
 
How do they pop off? I am trying to pryoff off but it doesn't seem to work. Can be any key.

OK I took off a bunch of keys and tried to clean out. No luck, maybe have to run and buy a keybooooooooooooooooooard.

I have the solution

1. remove Keyboard from Computer

2. take keyoard to back yard

3. Get shovel.

4. dig keyboard size hole 1 foot deep.

5. Place Keyboard in Hole.

6 Replace Dirt.

7 Go buy new keyboard.

Sorry had to do this once I thought of it. Old grandfather's pipe joke. Will explain when have more time :)
 
This is going to sound crazy, but it might work and if you plan to buy a new one anyhow, its worth a shot.

Unplug the keyboard.

Submerge in warm soapy water for a few minutes, shake underwater a little.

Rinse with warm water.

Shake all the excess water out.

Leave it in a warm spot, in a sunny place, or blow on it a while with a hair dryer. UNTIL IT IS COMPLETELY, COMPLETELY DRY.

Plug it back in and see if it works.

This does the trick 90% of the time.
 
Pick up the keyboard and tap corner on floor while swearing loudly and creatively.

Worked for me - the SO and Stepdaughter in spare room bought me a Thinkpad a 'month' before Christmas - took away my webtv and trashed it.
 
It's a long shot but check the keyboard speed setting in control panel
 
Speed setting very fast. Didn't help to slow

Got updated virus and spyware protection? A number of viri do the 'repeat' key trick...

If that isnt it, then it could be your keyboard controller on the motherboard. In other words, check out the current 'dell outrageous deals' and get your credit card out... :p
 
Got good protection from viruses, etc. Called our computer person at work, said maybe a bad port or worse.

DH gives me until Monday to fix or its a new computer. Ha! I thought he was frugal. Impatiennnnnnnnnnce rules.
 
Now, this post will "tempt the fates".

We bought a cheap computer system with Windows XP
loaded for next to nothing about 3 years ago. In the first 18 months we repaired or replaced everything
(literally) at least once. Last 18 months, no problems.
Go figure.

So our IT person at work says bad motherboard and the new one would cost $250. I ordered TH's suggested computer. Thanks for shopping for me again,TH. Though I am not happy to buy a new computer.
 
Slightly off topic................

As you all know we buy a lot of used stuff and it usually
turns out fine. Even have bought several used
computers. My point is that I buy all this used stuff and
possess no mechanical or technical ability at all.
All I can figure is it's my "shoot from the hip"
"I'll work it out somehow" personality. For example,
if I had been in Martha's position, my first impulse would be to visit garage sales. Go figure.

Thats a great machine for the $$. I havent owned one myself but I bought a pair of their little brothers (the 2400) for the in-laws and they like 'em. I hear the 3000's are a little louder than the 2400 but the 2400 is pretty quiet.

I'm using the same lcd that came with the deal...I paid more for it about 18 months ago than you paid for the whole system... :-/
