Knee replacements

Oxycodone and Tramadol, 20 pills each. The Oxy is 5mg or .5mg...very small. Not sure about the tramadol but suspect its a minor dosage.
Yeah, that should be enough to get you through it. Best results to you.

They gave her a cortisone shot and scheduled another appt in a few weeks. I'm not sure what they expect to find (improvement?) in a few weeks.

A cortisone shot often takes a week or more to have an impact, but if it does, it could mean a few months of relief. Not improvement, but the pain will go. That will give your wife time to plan.

DF just had one this summer at 79, he was bone on bone. It's the kind of thing to do sooner than later - much like investing! - you get more out of it the longer you have your new knee. His scar is amazingly low key too, even at just 3 months after I was surprised. Maybe 4-6 inches but hardly noticeable.

If she is diligent with the rehab, she'll be mostly normal in 3 months, but keep up the activity and strength training as a new normal after that. Walking is nice, but weight bearing stuff is really needed.

(oops I didn't realize this was a 2024 thread lol...)

DW is now 9 months post op. Her experience is pretty much the same as describe. Small scar, fast recovery. She’s 100% recovered with no restrictions. We’re going on some somewhat challenging hikes soon ,so it will be interesting to see how she handles them.

The bruising and swelling isn't for the faint of heart.

Had arthroscopic knee surgery this morning to repair mensicus and damaged cartilage and inflamation. Trying to avoid knee replacement at age 71. All went well -- no pain and should be up and around in a week.

Have they given you opiates? They gave DW more than she wanted (cut them in half.) Now, getting a pain pill is like (pardon the expression) pulling teeth. Docs care way more about their license than their patients - go figure!!
They will give pain pills for TKR. That’s serious surgery. Will try to ween you off asap. Unless real issues, probably need them less than two weeks
