Last movie you saw and what you thought...

I sat thru Mountainhead on HBO, what a waste of time, and I'm the target audience as a big Succession fan. Stupid.

'Conclave'

Cardinals so grand
Forced twists fade rather swiftly
DW stares out window

Watched the movie, becoming Led Zeppelin, on Netflix. Grew up with their music and have Zeppelin 1, 2 and 4 in my collection. Highly recommend if you are a fan.

Top Gun - Maverick. Just ok.
From our library.
We haven't had TV or cable for years.
Only DVD.

"Oblivion" with Tom Cruise. I think it's from 2013 or thereabouts. I saw it on Amazon Prime Video. Dystopian end of the world sci-fi movie.

Beautifully shot with excellent sound track. Fabulous special effects. Great plot twist about two-thirds of the way in. However, the story never seemed to get into high gear. I don't regret spending the 2 hours with it but would have to give it only a 6.5 or maybe a 7.0 out of 10. Could have been much better.

YouTube has put up a bunch of free movies. Ones we likely saw, but years ago. We recently watched The Truman Show and The Thing You Do. We enjoyed both and only remembered tiny scenes from our first watching.

The last movie I saw at a theater was Oppenheimer. It was a very good movie, but it was in an IMAX theater and the sound was painfully loud. I also did not quite get the Florence Pugh nude scenes during the security clearance hearings. Sure, she is attractive, but it seemed distracting and unnecessary to the story.
I had looked forward to watching Oppenheimer, but wasn't going to a theater to see it. Finally got to watch it on cable a few days ago. What a disappointment! I wanted to learn something and didn't. Too long. Too boring. The love scenes were forced and ridiculous. Just my opinion, so YMMV.

I like most Tom Cruise movies - but this wasn't one of them.

"Collateral" gets my vote as best TC movie in the last 20 years or so (full disclosure, I have not yet seen Top Gun 2).

New Amazon Prime Movie. Laughed out loud. Funny. Three improv actors are asked to go undercover by the police in London's criminal underworld.

The Amateur
When his supervisors at the CIA refuse to take action after his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack, a decoder takes matters into his own hands.
Movie was decent. a little over 2 hrs. kind of a thriller with some twists.

Snow White (2025)
streaming on Disney+, the live action remake of their Disney classic. It was mired in review bombing during its theater run, but I thought it had all the makings of a typical Disney production — the music and singing, the talented cast, the colorful costumes, the professional production designs. I did wish the film studio had made a choice to use real actors for the 7 dwarves instead of the CGI faces it ended up with. I rate it a 4 out of 5 stars.

We can second this, it was a great movie.

We are watching ALL the Statham movies in chronological order. So far they are all good bar one, I forgot the title but we only watched about 30 mins of it before stopping and deleting it.

Many years ago, Blue Thunder. Most memorable line: You are JAFO!

Yes, Blue Thunder was one of the first movies I bought for my Sony Super Betamax HiFi VCR.
Great movie. Always a fan of Scheider.

I wonder how much of the fictional technology that was shown has come to pass.

Good story; my favorite band, seen them in Three Rivers Stadium in '73. Unforgettable. Each member had their own black limo pulled up to the stage area. I have all their stuff including the BBC sessions.

How To Train Your Dragon (2025)
Live action remake of the original animated movie, viewed in the theater. It was surprisingly good. I heard quite a few audience chuckles throughout the movie. Gerard Butler was very entertaining as the protagonist’s father. Nearly everyone applauded at the end. Can’t remember hearing applause like that since, hmm, The Titanic?

"Fountain of Youth" on Apple TV. Stars John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. Concerns a dying billionaire's quest to find the legendary fountain of youth and his team of adventurers (led by Krasinski) tasked with finding it. It plays kind of like The DaVinci Code and/or National Treasure in that it has a lot of puzzles to solve and obstacles to overcome during the quest. Lots of exotic locations and very cool set pieces.

This movie tried real hard to be an Indiana Jones wannabe but it fell short. There's nothing really wrong with it, it's competently made (Guy Ritchie directs). The CGI is excellent and are realistic looking (wait 'til you see the Pyramids), the special effects are pretty good, the chase scenes are decent, the fight scenes are OK, etc. All the ingredients were there but the movie wasn't baked properly. Hard to put a finger on it, maybe overly familiar with this sort of thing?

One annoying thing is the characters would summarize the plot almost every 15 minutes. Dialogue got fairly stilted as they took turns explaining to the audience either what they just saw or what was coming up next. I hate "exposition dumps." I think they are insulting to the viewer's intelligence.

I guess I'll give it a 6.0 out of 10. Maybe a 6.5. It's on Apple TV so it's got the best picture and sound quality available, and it does look and sound wonderful. Just too bad about the movie.

I will have to watch. I used to have a job in Albuquerque seating people before concerts, back when people actually had assigned seats and mostly stayed in them. Once the concert started, we ushers were allowed to sit in the second row in the floor seats and watch. I saw just about everyone in the late 60’s, very early 70’s. One of my favorites was seeing Led Zepplin opening for Vanilla Fudge in August, 1969. None of us knew who they were, but they had the best concert! It was all from their first album and so raw, not polished like when I saw them a few years later. The next day, we all went to record stores to buy their album, but none were in the stores yet.
