Last movie you saw and what you thought...

Watched Project Hail Mary and liked it. I read the book a couple of years ago and really liked the book. DH hadn’t read the book and enjoyed the movie.

I'd go broke paying for all the various streaming services that span the lists of movies on this thread. I understand that once signed up, the movies are 'free', but how about a one-time fee for each movie if I don't want to commit to a service? Like maybe $5 to see a single Hulu, Disney +, Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO, HBO Max, YouTube, Peacock, Peacock Plus, and on and on and on....

The local theater now charges over $25 per seat for an IMAX showing and you have to have an app on your phone to even purchase a ticket there. Oh, and PLUS a fee for that privilege. $52 to see a new release movie with my wife? Really?
Amazon and YouTube are two, maybe more, that offer pay for on demand movies.

Saw Project Hail Mary yesterday. I loved his previous book The Martian. I didn't particularly like the Project Hail Mary book. I'm surprised it made to the big screen. It was an enjoyable movie with some good humor. Overall though I think it is a forgettable film.

Both DW and I loved this movie... would recommend it to anybody..

Project Hail Mary
Saw this one last night on the big screen theater. I was looking forward to this movie since I really enjoyed Andy Weir’s previous movie adaptation of his book The Martian in 2015. This movie did not disappoint. Funny, creative, heartwarming. I also enjoyed the ending.

I’m going to disagree…I didn’t really like Hail Mary. I loved the book and have reread it at least twice.

I think the lack of internal dialogue and loss of gradual discovery by Grace over his situation (and far less science and math) was the issue for me.

Also, in the book Rocky was much more an equal participant in the science.

My 2 cents.

You, Me and Tuscany.... was a good movie... DW liked it more than me but I think it was good..

Just watched Marty Supreme and I know I'm in the minority, but didn't care for it at all. Plot was kind of all over the place and most of the characters were totally unlikable. Different strokes I guess.

So, watched Michael yesterday and both DW and I liked it..

You can actually squint and believe that it was him... we will see what the 2nd one has in store...

Got a list of the top 20 Coen Brothers films. Marked off the ones we've seen and where to watch the rest. Watched Burn After Reading and Blood Simple the last few days. Enjoyed both although Blood Simple got a little slow in the middle.

Took DW to see Devil wears Prada II at the movie theater on opening day. I can't say that I enjoyed the movie or even understood most of it.

I went with my son and grandkids and very much enjoyed it. Love the music, then and now.

My wife liked the first one, and she liked this sequel.

I didn't care for the first one, and would evaluate this sequel as fair. It certainly helps if you remember the plot lines from original, which I did not.

Solo Mio

Kevin James is a groom who is left at the alter. He decides to go on the planned honeymoon anyway, alone. Antics ensue.

My wife liked it a lot. I didn't care for it because a few of the characters were too zany.

We watched the Academy Award-winning Best Picture, "One Battle after Another" which is now on Prime.

I thought it was a timely film that depicts both the lefties and the righties in a cartoonish manner.
  • The Sean Penn character (a corrupt military Colonel determined to pursue and eliminate the left-wing revolutionaries) reminded me of Tom Hardy.
  • The Leo DeCaprio character reminds me a little of "The Dude". I loved his comment "I Know How to Drink and Drive, Honey. I Know What I’m Doing."
  • The Teyana Taylor character "Perfidia Beverly Hills" was a trip and IMO followed the irreverent female characters in many movies/series these days.
I thought it was interesting and entertaining.

DW stumbled across Philip K. Dick in her readings and, though not a Sci-Fi person, has gotten interested in his life story and some of his writings. So I have been showing her the movies based on his work (which I have seen already but I find interesting to re-watch). This weekend we have watched Blade Runner (the director's cut version) and Total Recall (the original). Next up is Minority Report.

Whew.
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." That final line and Rutger's delivery gets me every time. What a treat for her - or did she enjoy the movie?

She very much enjoyed that movie, and that line. She likes movies that have (in her view) good dialog, and this was one of them.

The Mandalorian & Grogu
Saw in theater last night. It’s a movie length version of Disney’s tv series The Mandalorian, and is mainly for Star Wars fans. I have been following the series, so I also enjoyed this one. Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) was unrecognizable in this film by vision and voice.

Pinball: The Man Who Saved The Game

Based on real events about a man (Roger Sharpe) adrift who develops a passion for pinball and works to legalize pinball in NYC while pursuing a writing career and falling for a woman who has a pre-teen son. It was sweet and funny and interesting and I recommend it.

+1 DW and I saw it today and enjoyed it. Since I haven't been following the Mamdalorian series closely I asked Gemini to give me a brief on the storyline going into the movie and what it provided was helpful rather than going in stone cold.
