Apparently, I have been living under a rock for my many working years. I literally just learned of Uncrustables a couple of days ago when the NY Times wrote an article about how many some NFL players eat. Immediately went out and got a box...YUM! They will be perfect on the boat next summer or fishing or anytime I feel the need for excess calories. ( no comment on the health status...they are too good)

Well, I guess you learn something every day. Never heard of "Uncrustables." Sound delicious, but I doubt they're gonna fit in with my low carb diet.

I think there is a paywall to this article, but I copied and pasted a bit:

"At the end of the 2023 season, The Athletic endeavored to find out just how many Uncrustables the league actually eats. And after convincing team employees that this was in fact a real question and not another scam message, most teams agreed to pony up their data from last year. A handful declined to participate, and a few others said they were PB&J purists who made their own sandwiches.

But based on the information collected, it’s safe to say that NFL teams go through anywhere from 3,600 to 4,300 Uncrustables a week. When you factor in training camps and the teams that did not share their data, NFL teams easily go through at least 80,000 Uncrustables a year."

So is the outer shell bread? Weird!

I had seen advertisements about this product and based on the picture thought it was in a mini pie crust and really didn’t get it.

Actually maybe I saw them in the freezer section at Costco.

Never heard of them. I have been living under a rock for many years so doesn't surprise me I haven't heard of them and many other things. Lol

I don't get it . I LIKE crusts.

I do know that back when I was doing the occasional sprint triathlon and 30-mile charity bike rides, PB&J sandwiches were frequently at the refreshment stops- good mix of carbs and protein.

I don’t even eat sandwiches! (or bread)

I heard of them when I saw a grandchild eating one. And then I promptly forgot about them. I do understand them however. The crust on many American store bought breads is just awful. I cut it off all the time as I consider the crust to be extra calories and carbs that add no flavor to whatever I am using the bread for. Maybe that’s why I keep posting to the Sourdough bread discussion at this site.

Please don’t tell me you haven’t heard of Nerds Gummy Clusters.

But, if you haven’t and desire to impress some Tweens and young Teens:

Ha! Awesome for a stocking stuffer! I guess I am really out of touch. I don't eat candy except around Halloween and the occasional bit of chocolate around Christmas.
Thank you!:)

My wife just bought a bunch on Amazon for stocking stuffers. Of course I will sample them to make sure they are " ok"....lol

I’ve seen uncrustables for sale, but I’m much too frugal to buy a premade peanut butter and jelly sandwich! It’s not like it’s difficult to make a pbj sandwich.

I guess i'm a fellow rock dweller as I have never heard of these before today. They seem like a good idea. Even though I am generally not a fan of jelly/jam I may have to give these a try.

I just looked it up and looks like at my local store they are around $1 per sandwich give or take depending on size of package. I believe I am the most frugal person on this site(<$12K total spending most years) and even I will give these a try.

When I was a Wildland Firefighter, they were always in our daily provision packs. I kinda liked them as long as I wasn't paying for them.

I've eaten them before, but not a real fan. I found something similar at Costco that I like better. Bobo's PB&Js. Nutritionally, they're probably about the same, however, the Bobo's are gluten free. They're made from a oat and peanut butter crust with a jelly filing.

I see them in the store. Never had an interest. They look like overpriced PB&J sandwiches to me. If I'm desperate enough to eat a cold sandwich like that, I'll make it myself. And frankly, crust or no crust really doesn't matter much. It's not fine dining either way. Just something quick to eat.

That said, I did know kids who would cut or pull the crust off before eating a sandwich. I probably haven't seen that since elementary school. It seemed like more work than it was worth to me.

I read the same article but never had them either. I've also never had any Little Debbie products and apparently I'm supposed to be excited about some Christmas tree cakes there.

While we are on weird products I'll mention I heard of Coke Zero Oreo limited edition. Never had it either.

Same here more or less. I’m thinking this product came out over 10 yrs ago. I never really knew (or cared) what it was but I assumed it was pre-made PB&J. I can’t believe I’m even commenting here. I do love PB&J but I’m a jelly snob.

You should post this in the BTD thread!

I'm too cheap to buy these as I make my own PB&J sandwiches and I like the crust (I put the filling right to the edges, and toast the bread).
I spend 3x what you do per year as a minimum.

Yes. They’ve been around since 1995. Imagine an ordinary PB&J sandwich, with the center cut out with a round cookie cutter, and edges somewhat sealed/crimped. I bought a box at Costco after seeing the golf video above, they were OK, never bought another. Just another product no one needs, but millions will buy.

Uncrustables are great for a long bike ride. Just take a couple out of the freezer when walking out the door, put them in your pocket, and they're thawed when you're ready to eat them. And, you can eat them on the move without getting jelly on everything.

Personally, I like bigger portions, and crust, and more peanut butter, but these serve me well. Only trouble is they're too easy to snack on if I have them in the house, lol.

It’s funny because I wouldn’t touch Smucker’s PB or grape jelly with a 10 foot pole. Not to mention the bread!
