Now trying to determine what to do with my life now that I am finally grown up. Living in a NYC suburb doesn't make sense anymore except for my "crowd" and a special friendship. But where to go? Don't ski - don't like snow. And NO GOLF, PLEASE! (I was almost disbarred for being a lawyer who did not play golf)
Hope to get some good ideas here.
Congrats on your ER! I'm also recently retired and having the time of my life. Been on the road running from the snow, just crossed an ancient sea bed up in the mountains between Taos and Sante Fe, NM following the setting sun to further points west for the winter.
FIRE'd up and a PT wannabe, I can now come and go as I please...decided to stay a while in Albequerque (nice place) staying at an extended stay Studio 6 (they allow the dog!)...going up on a return trip up the Sandia Peak tram tonite (world's longest) up to the "High Finance" restaurant (with great views and food).
Heading out to AZ to visit family and check out the resort living lifestyle for a while (No Golf here either...sold the clubs and everything else...tired of chasing the little ball around and getting it in the hole
Check out the Paradise in Panama thread for some further inspiration. Planning an exploratory visit to check it out probably in Jan/Feb. Also, enjoyed the culture and people in Thailand with the "Mai Pen Rai" lifestyle in the "Land of Smiles" (friend of mine lived there for about 8 years). Also...The (PT'rs) Terhorst's and Alkerdi's have been an inspiration to me. (Cashing in on the American Dream: How to Retire at 35).
"If I had my life to live over, I'd dare to make more mistakes next time. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones. You see, I'm one of those people who lived sensibly and sanely, hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I've had my moments, and if I could do it over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd try to have nothing else...just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day. If I had my life to live over, I would go to more dances, I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies." -Nadine Stair (age 85 at the time she wrote it)
Some thoughts along the way...
