I am trying to estimate our 2024 tax liability so I can take a one time Tax withholding from our investments. I am looking for a 2024 (2025 Filing) Federal Income tax Estimator that includes SS etc. for the retiree.

There are many out there but not many at all that are simple "Fill in the Boxes" estimators that Include our Social Security and Pension Payments.

If anyone know one that is free and includes the above requirements, please can you leave the link?

Thanks in Advance.

I found a good one here, see version 22.14 at reply #451:
Hope it helps you out!

Edit: I see he posted a version 22.15 at a later reply in that same thread.

Thanks, I would hardly call it simple though. Also When one downloads it Microsoft blocks the macros as potential threats, probably bogus, but it still blocks them.

Yes it is complex but also very thorough. I have downloaded it and used it successfully. It has been used and tested by lots of folks so I believe it to be safe. And it's free. But of course as they say "caveat emptor".

It is not letting me enter Interest income etc. If your one works Perhaps PM me and you can email it to me. :)

I have used this one for years for Federal taxes. I don't get social security, but it's on there.

I have used TurboTax What If form as a good tax estimator. If you did your 2023 taxes with TurboTax for this is a good option.

ETA it does a good job overall, but I found out it somehow missed the updated standard deduction.

Thanks I have also used that one. It is probably one of the best. Funny there are others that allow age entries but do not have a SS

I thought I would ask here before Turbo Tax is available just in case ...... or I will just have to wait. But that is cutting it fine for the Tax withholding procedure from one of my MYGAs.

Look under standard or itemizes deductions

Perhaps the Dinkytown estimator would be a better option for you, and maybe me too haha. I like how straightforward it is. Thanks @GenXguy for posting that link! Also I use TurboTax every year and never knew about the TurboTax What If form so I'll check into that and give it a go as well. Thanks for posting that idea @audreyh1 :)

I made my own a few years ago as an Excel spreadsheet.
None of the others, like Dinkytown, were too simplistic.

I needed one that accounted for two SS incomes, two RMDs, two non-RMD IRA withdrawals, dividends, interest, LT & ST capital gains, etc. None of the one I found on the internet were good enough.

It wasn't too difficult. For 2023, it came within 2% of our actual tax from TurboTax.

Now all I need to do at the beginning of each year is update the RMDs and the tax brackets.

Roth Conversion with Social Security and Medicare IRMAA is a good walk-through for using the Case Study Spreadsheet. Interest income is definitely considered.

I think the latest version is always available from the link in the first post of that thread.

There is a link in that post about Microsoft's overly protective macro policy and how to deal with it.
