Medical Insurance before Medicare

I'm new to the group, so this idea may be taboo, but I chose the ACA plan and used $1 of my subsidy. My insurance company allows me to pay by credit card with no additional fees. So I at least get enough points for a free flight. My income fluctuates, so I may or may not fall off the cliff. AND, I figured I had to be on the plan, just in case they actually fix the 2026 subsidy "correction" from the COVID help.

^^^ When you file your 2026 tax return, a form will calculate what you are entitled to for an ACA subsidy based on your income compared to the $12 of subsidies that you received and any difference will be applied to any tax that you owe or included in your refund.

What is the general consensus for acquiring Medical Insurance before 65 when medicade/medicare is available?
Using the typical government programs, going private or are there other options?
most people bridge the gap with ACA marketplace plans, that’s the default if you’re not working or don’t have employer coverage… depending on income you can get subsidies that make it a lot cheaper, if income is low enough then Medicaid, if you’re retiring early some use COBRA for a bit but it’s usually expensive, private off marketplace plans exist but rarely beat ACA once subsidies are factored in, so yeah for most cases it’s marketplace plan plus subsidies if you qualify
