I am now 65 y.o. When I log into my Medicare account it looks like my Part D insurance defaults to my current insurance for next year. However, my Part G insurance has no default although it shows my current insurance as available to select for 2025. Do both Part D and Part G automatically renew during the open enrollment period if I do nothing? I put in a call to the insurer but have heard nothing back so far.

It’s Plan G, a Medigap Supplement. Once signed up for a particular Medigap you’re in permanently. Ability to change Medigap plans is very limited once you are 3 months from turning 65. Unlike Part D there is only an initial open enrollment period for Medigap Plans +/- 3 months window around your birthday. There are a few guaranteed issue exceptions and some states have somewhat more flexible rules.

Part D plans auto renew if you don’t select a different plan during the late year annual open enrollment period.

We usually get a "blurb" from the insurance carrier for our gap policy. The new features, limitations and new cost are listed. They always say "if you don't wish to make changes, your policy will renew."

I did get a call back from my insurance company yesterday confirming what has been posted here. She also said my premium would be unchanged. Then I got an email from Medicare that basically said the same "if you make no changes and the policy is still being offered, you policy will renew automatically." Thanks all.

I check for ourselves and some older (non-computer literate) relatives, the part D.

This year, I saved one relative ~$1,000 by changing the part D he was subscribed to.
I find the medicare.gov site for changing part D to be very excellent to compare and sign up a change if needed.
It compares really well after inputting the pharmacy used, meds taken.

Agree. Just finalized ours. Mine staying the same with a $0.00 premium, DW changed from Silver Scripts(was going from $9.90/month to 44.90/month) to WellCare at $3.10/ month. Silver Scripts was going to cost her an additional $100/year in rx costs as well. So she is saving over $500/yr. Worth the hour or 2 comparing plans.
