I got an email from Medicare.gov this morning about a new Medicare.gov login experience. You should have yours soon, or see it online now when you go to Medicare.gov and attempt to login. At some your old credentials at Medicare will go away in favor of ID.me, Clear, or Login.gov. Great, I think! I use Login.gov now so this setting up and verification thingy should be a POC (Piece of Cake)!

So after I dive deep into the bowels of my Android device to change camera permissions, then change the address info so it EXACTLY matches what Medicare has in the profile, upload photos of ID and take a selfie. I'm almost done. I'm almost there. Except the cell phone that Login.gov uses to text me the link to their site to upload photos and which is the same cell phone on the SSA site for some reason doesn't match any cell phone on Medicare.gov (phone numbers come from some database somewhere).

Contact Medicare, they say contact Login.gov, and when I explain the problem to Login Customer Service - they have a solution: use one of the other options.

Sigh. Happy Monday.

I finally used ID.me to connect to the IRS web site. The first post confused me. I thought the point of login.gov and ID.me was to authenticate yourself one time and then be able to use that ID.me or Login.gov to login to the various web sites that use it. The post seemed to imply that even though id did the license picture and selfie for IRS I would have to do it again for Medicare?

Every time you connect another government agency to one of the validation websites you need to provide identity credentials. Each agency has different requirements for what they want to see. You have to go through a process of connecting the agency (IRS, Social Security, etc) to the validation site. Once you've done that then you merely go to the agency website and login using Id.me or Login.gov, etc.

I didn't have to do it again for Medicare. I just used the one previously setup with the IRS to login to Medicare. Worked like a charm, although it seems to me I had to click on something to authenticate it the first time. But it's been so long now I've forgotten what it was exactly.

This got me to go try it out. I was able to pick ID.me from the Medicare login screen, login to ID.me and be connected with Medicare.gov without any new pictures being required.

Why did you need camera for login.gov? I verified without any such thing on SS a year or so ago. IIRC they matched me right away and sent a code to the land line as I requested. I'm certain I know some elderly people who will not be able to do this. (Lack of cognitive/technical ability). Not on Medicare yet so can't try it out for myself.

I was expecting login.gov to work for me just as it does on the SSA.gov website.

I do rather think I heard that if you are not collecting benefits yet (which I am not) they do not require as much verification to create the initial account (which in my case was login.gov) but that seems odd so I may have imagined it.

Used login.gov option.
Went OK, other than a VERY long time for my phone to be verified before taking the req'd pics.
Waited a few minutes, then was another couple minutes into troubleshooting/reading info from ChatGPT that indicated this is a common problem and the many possible causes.
Then noticed that the verification had finally completed and my phone was ready to take DL pic.

Just FYI- if you see a delay at this step be patient for up to 5" (estimate from my experience).

DH and I got approved for login.gov. It took us about an hour. The issue I have now is the Medicare/SS accounts for my 95 year old mother who has Alzheimers and is bed bound. She has no current drivers license or passport. I am her POA and cannot figure out how to update her Medicare or SS accounts.

Has anyone else had issues with having 2 different IDMe accounts open at the same time? Both times I've tried signing into the 2nd, I get logged out of the 1st one.

Used the same ID me that I set up for my SS account and had no problems signing in.

Good to know! So then Login.gov may have issues, and that's why they suggested I pick one of the other alternatives (Id.me or Clear).

On SS I didn't need to verify with a selfie - but apparently that's a requirement for Medicare - compare the Drivers license photo to a selfie photo. "Apparently" means I'm guessing.

Login.gov doesn't work for me. For two factor authentication, I use my cell phone but I never get a text. ID.me works for me. I haven't checked Medicare.gov yet.

Just went to Medicare.Gov
There were 4 choices to use for a login. I used my already set up Medicare.Gov information and it worked.
I did NOT have to use my Login.ID.

The Feds GENERALLY do not recognize a POA. Am dealing with that w/ DW's sister. Memory care unit. Pensions with Defense Finance and Office of Personnel Management (her late husband) and cannot get 1099-R forms. The newish privacy laws are a good thing, until they are not. LOL

According to Medicare, your old Medicare.gov login will continue to work temporarily but is being phased out and you will need to use either ID.me, Clear or Login.gov.

I am collecting and just logged on medicare with the IDME login that I use for SSA. 2FA and easy peasy

I hate that I had to give the id.me company a considerable amount of personal information to access federal government sites. You can’t delete your id.me account because you will lose access to the sites.

I just completed this and used login.gov because that is what I had setup for social security and figured it would be easier. I started on my laptop and it prompted me to switch to my phone and follow the link in the text it sent to take a picture of my DL or Passport and a selfie. I got the phone pictures completed and went back to my laptop to complete the process.
It seems like it's just a more difficult way to login to Medicare since I still have to select login.gov or Id.me, enter my credentials, and then use my fingerprint to finally get to the Medicare site.

I have never logged onto Medicare.gov., what is the need for it?
Everything I have needed to do for our medicare has been via ss or our insurance (Kaiser) online portal.
I have for SSA.gov, 2 FA, etc.
