I’m planning to go with Medigap Plan G high deductible in March 2025.

In my NY zip code, I have only 5 choices for the high deductible plan:
EmblemHealth Plan
Bankers Conseco
Excellus Blue Cross / Blue Shield
Globe Life Insurance
Humana

I’d prefer to work with an independent broker, but can find only Excellus and Humana with independent brokers.

Not coincidentally, those are also the highest premiums.

My phone call this morning to Emblem Health with a simple question was quite frustrating, and reminded me of the value that a broker can add. I’m not sure it’s worth 6 years of the built in commission reflected in the pricing either, and the script reading person who answered the phone could only make an appointment to talk about Advantage plans 🤦‍♂️

Has anyone reading this (who lives in NY and has a supplemental Medigap high deductible plan G) had any experience with EmblemHealth, Bankers Conseco, or Globe Life Insurance?

I don’t want to trade $10-20 per month in premium savings for a bunch of other headaches.

I’m pretty sure the life insurers will want to suck me in with a loss leader and sell me other insurance I don’t want, but I’m very frugal too 🤦‍♂️ As long as the coinsurance bill gets paid, they won’t have much else to do…….

Globe and United American are usually the cheapest and are popular in many states for HD G. Globe owns UA. That's what I would pick.

I have F HD. Just be aware you pay all the bills yourself, between what medicare pays and up until the plan deductible is met. Also the plan deductible keeps rising every year. Fine when young as I get older more difficult. Hosp billing is a mess, still waiting from April for some. Also look at attained age,vs community rated plans. If I could do over might go with plan N. But I am not in NY.

NY has rules like no other state. Most just buy a Medigap policy once they get sick since the rules allow for it.

And we pay for that community rating benefit 🤦‍♂️
The High Deductible plans are probably the ones with the least price distortion. Most people wait until they get sick and then buy a full G once that happens.
