My Absent-Mindedness Strikes Again

Sometimes I look in a nearby cupboard for something that I know is in the fridge. And of course the reverse mistake happens.

I bought a lot of high contrast color (red) vertical eyeglasses holders from Amazon, with an open top and put them in the places that I tend to take off glasses around the house: Bedside, bathroom, closet, office, side table in the family room/counter/kitchen area. I made it a habit to put glasses in the closest eyeglass holder when taking them off. That limits the number of places that I have to search if I wander off to another room.

I got DH his own eyeglass holders in a different color, but he is a slow learner!

Yep, I have to pick up my (latest) spare pair of glasses from the shop. Probably tomorrow. And I do keep a spare pair in the car, as me seeing the road is more important than being able to see the tv.

One more reason I don't want a huge screen in my car to turn on the windshield wipers and AC. I'd need TWO sets of glasses!

Interesting. I rarely lose things, but it's not because I have a great memory (I don't). It's because I am a terribly repetitive person. I habitually put things in very specific places, so I always know where they are. On the odd occasion that I do lose something, my life is upended until I find it!

Glad you found your glasses.

I wish I was regimented like you! I leave everything pretty much everywhere! I lose my phone multiple times a day.

I don't lose my glasses only because they are on my face all day long. Otherwise, I'm sure I would lose them all the time.

I had refractive lens exchange (RLE) done over a year ago. The lenses in your eyes can be replaced with multifocal lenses that eliminate the need for reading glasses. After 50 plus years of wearing glasses all the time I splurged on the procedure and have no regrets.

This is where the hobgoblin of little minds comes in handy. There are only so many places I can use my reading glasses. On the odd occasion I reach for them and they're not there, there ain't but one or two other places they can be.

Also, besides the desk pair, I keep a pair in the pocket of my jacket, my winter coat, one in the car, and one in my emergency bug-out bag. I know where I can find a pair reading glasses.

The DW and I both use reading glasses for close up stuff. They are not needed for watching TV or driving, etc. The way we solved the problem of misplacing our reading glasses is, we bought about 10 pair. They are everywhere. :)
That’s what my dad told me to do when I had cataract surgery. 😀

So far I’m surviving with a single pair of readers that cost $1.50

I finally picked up my "spare" pair of (non-driving) glasses. So far I am keeping them next to my recliner in case I want to see the television. The thing is - I don't watch much television but if I move them around - they will run away.

Once in a while there is a show on Smithsonian with beautiful scenery that I would like to see clearly or a home makeover - but mostly I live in a soft focus world.

When I was younger, before I had lasik surgery, if I took off my glasses and put them down on a table or counter, I immediately forgot where I had put them, they melded into the surface upon which they had been placed, and I had to feel around to find them. A few times I had to request assistance in locating them.

I am not farsighted. When I went to the optometrist, I told him that I had trouble reading the inserts which came with medications, which I have found to be not only very small print, but very light print. He responded that nobody could read them and handed me a card with small print, which I had no trouble reading. So, no readers for me.

One of the main reason to keep a landline, is to locate a cell phone, if no one else is around. Hypothetically speaking of course.

I habitually attach my keys on a magnet I have mounted near the door I enter the house through. Always there when I want them.

Even in my small apartment, I have had to use my land line to find my cell phone a few times over the years. LOL! I also use it to retrieve the rare voice mail messages on my cell phone (I pay per minute for my low-end, low-use cell phone, so this is better) if I am at home.

I keep my prescription reading glasses by my chair and I never move them. I have cheap readers in other places. I never lose my phone or anything else because I’m a creature of habit and my condo is small.

My wallet, phone, keys, glasses, etc. are either in my hand/on my head, their designated pocket, or their designated resting/charging spot. I don’t set them down anywhere else.

I have designated places to store glasses bifocals, sunglasses, wallet, phone, car/truck keys in house, garage, shop, basement and garden, and similar place when we travel. So at this time the only things I can't remember are answers to Jeopardy questions and an name once in a while.
I do take a picture of where the car is parked at airport when we fly.
