Well folks I am currently midway in my journey after having this procedure. Cystoscopy /Rezum/Transurethal resection of Prostrate Foley Insertion. Whew that was a lot!
I went in to the hospital 06/04/25 @ 6:30 am for this outpatient procedure. Had all the normal stuff, verify name DOB,what are you having done today, take off all you clothes and put on this gown. Then here comes the platoon of nurses, techs, and finally the Anisteaoligist, to ask all those questions again, which the answers are still the same. Finally they put on my oxygen mask----and about 10 seconds later it seems I'm being woke up and it is 10:45 am and I have a pain below my belt line. I am told by my DW that she was told I did really good, and I'm really proud of myself since I have no memory of anything. Fast forward to trip home I don't really remember it either but I guess it was ok. My DW dumped me off then headed for the pharmacy and returned around 1 hr. later waking me up again. This began a regimen trying to find a comfortable way to sit or lay down,or stand and walk with this big bag of bloody PEE that I was having to empty about every 4 to 5 hours, and having to take lots of pills, antibiotic, pain, ect. on top of my normal bunch. I have an appointment tomorrow 06/12/2025 @ 9:30 am to hopefully get rid of this tube and bag. I sure do hope it turns out to be worth the pain in the long run. I have read about others journeys here and am hopefully looking forward to some PEE free and now pain free nights ahead.

Rezum and TURP? Why the combo procedure?

A couple of years ago my current (then new) urologist recommended Rezum (which is a quick in-office procedure) instead TURP which my old urologist recommended. However, since my prostate has grown in the past two years, he is now recommending aquablation.

I just went through the prostate biopsy procedure so I know all about bloody pee.

I appreciate all on this board that tell their health stories. Thank you. Here's to hoping you have a quick recovery and a great outcome.

Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery.

According to him I have a really large prostrate and he feels like the combo will give the best results. I researched it and hae found some other studies that were the same thing. I don't really know but I'm hopeful the pain will be worth it in the long run. Time will tell.

Best wishes for a quick recovery and good health in the future.

Hope you get good results tomorrow. That will help you feel better. Sounds like rough past week.

When I had my TURP five years ago they had me spend the night in the hospital. Not a problem, and in fact I found the food pretty good. Next morning the catheter came out and I learned a valuable lesson.
A couple of hours before the doc showed up the nurse offered me some pain pills. I declined, since it wasn't bad at all. But taking the catheter out was quite painful, and so was the first pee afterward. I asked the nurse for those pills, but was turned down, since it wasn't on the schedule for that time.
I sure won't make that mistake again!

Anyway, five years later I'm still very happy with my TURP results.

Thanks for the narrative, Venturer. Hoping for best results. Do, please, keep us informed as many of us will face similar situations in the future. All the best to you.

Never turn down pain meds, huh? I'm filing that away in my memory bank - especially if I ever have prostate surgery. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing, I suspect I’m on a similar path, but I’m told I should wait until next Feb at the earliest - after undergoing radiation for PCa. Flomax is helping in the meantime.

Well folks I went in yesterday morning and had the Foley catheter removed !@#$%^& OMG that was an experience in and of itself!!! THe Nurse/technition was acute young lady and told us she would be "irrigating" and testing things. Ask if I would prefer my wife to stay or go. I said it won't bother me she has seen it all before. She proceeded getting these bottles of saline down and then got out a 2 ft. long Needle thing and started filling it up. No not reall 2 ft. but big--- hooked it up and she started pushing water in so she could fill "fill my bladder"> she looked like an Angel but she was the devil in disguise> after she got 5 gallons in I really had to go so She and DW helped me to throne & I went & went & went. Then she had me sit/lie back down on the little 1/2 table again and said This may be a little uncomfortable she lied again! She hooked back up & started pushing the water in then pulling it back out to "clear any clots". Afterwards when the stuff coming out was only barely pinkish she left to get the Dr. He explained that he would see me again in 6 weeks unless I had problems. So yesterday afternoon untill this am I have been resting. I can't drive, lift more than 10 lbs, ride my motorcycle, and I was prescribed to dring 6 oz of PRUNE JUICE every morning so I won't have to strain. I hae been going to the throne on average every 2 hrs.so I will not have to strain. Thanks for following along on my journey. See ya, I gotta go!!!!

This all hurts just reading it. Thanks for sharing (I think!)

All the best going forward. Keep us posted. Blessings to you.

I had TURP surgery last August. Had to stay in the Hospital overnight so they could flush out my bladder with Saline solution. Evidently my bladder had several large bladder stones that were broken up during the operation. Make sure you take the meds they give you and I found that the prune juice was the only thing that worked relieving constipation. After a few days the blood will stop appearing in your urine and it will look quite normal. But, after a few clear days the blood will reappear again as you start to heal. I was kind of freaked out when the blood reappeared. Your first pee after they remove the foley can be very stressful but will return to normal withing a few days. Take it easy for at least a few weeks while your body heals. You'll feel great in no time.

Well I thought things were looking up. By Friday afternoon I was still going pee about every 1 hour and less pink. Thats good? By Friday evening It was starting to sting worse when going but no pink. I slept in recliner so as not to bother my DW getting up so much. Went to sleep around 11pm,up at 1:eek:o am, back to sleep till 3:30 am then up at 5:45 am. Pee looks normal but not much volume, this continued all day yesterday (Sat.) & into last night. Now maybe I'm just too worried but I'm thinking "What happened to the pee that was filling the bag every 3 to 4 hrs. while I was wearing it to heal?" The DR. said there is always a possibility of a clot being thrown off and blocking the urethea. So here I am wondering if that has happened. I'm just going to keep on doing as I have been untill tomorrow when he is back in office to call and allay my fears, but I'm thinking something isn't right. Sorry to be so gross sounding but I got no one else to vent to and I've seen where some of y'all have been thru it.

We need ALL the details, gross or not. Many of us will face decisions about the issue sooner or later. Thanks for sharing.

I would try to walk around the house as much as possible to see if that loosen things up. I would not be in a reclining position all day. You should have seen some clotting blood in your pee. You can’t miss it. If you haven’t seen any, there probably is a problem. Doctor told me, if it is a weekend and I couldn’t get ahold of him, go immediately to the ER.

I'm thinking if your urethra was blocked, you would pretty soon have a very full bladder. I'm thinking also that during the surgery, they give you tons of fluids, so there was probably a lot of extra fluid to come out initially. Unless you are drinking gallons, you won't continue to go that much. It seems unlikely that a clot would show up four days after surgery. Here the internet might be your friend. I found a blog with posts about experiences post TURP! It appears these are common complaints after TURP. There's always a possibility of a UTI, but it doesn't really sound like it. There is inflammation post surgery, just like a UTI, so spasms and discomfort and going frequently are not that unusual, apparently.

I'm interested as DH is starting to get some prostate issues and I'm grateful to learn from your experience.

Update---- Monday am I called DR and they brought me in,my prostrate was full of clots. My Dr was out of town but his partner saw me. He flushed it out several times, then had me go home again with a catheter for a week to give things longer to heal. My 1st night back at home last nite was another experience. I am very bruised & raw from the other catheter so it was an experience. trying to get comfortable. They sent me home with a walking bag but as it got close to bed time I had figured out that wouldn't be big enough for overnight so we changed it for the "big" bag, and good thing we did, because it was fulllll this morning! As it was draining I saw 3 pretty large clots go thru, and several more smaller ones. The Dr. had told me that he felt like I had a lot and he was right. Now my biggest problem is constipation. The new Dr. told me to upmy prune juice from 4 oz to 8 oz to get things going again. I just took all my normal meds except the asprin and drank my cuppajuice. Now gonna just wait for it to work.

I had the Rezum procedure May 27th, 4 weeks ago today. I only had a local and the procedure was complete in less than an hour. Was not much fun but after all the research I had done I knew I had to do something. Catheter was removed three days later and I learned to self catheter to avoid a trip to the ER if I could not urinate on my own. Full recovery can take 90 days but I feel the worse is behind me. Still some bleeding and that was expected and may continue for several more weeks. Now I get up once in the middle of the night to pee instead of five times. I can go several hours during the day without a bathroom break too. Most of the discomfort I once had is gone. And, I can pee like I used to with a good consistent flow. BTW, I will be 64 next month. Happy I did it and would recommend it if your doctor says it’s right for you. The first week or two will be unpleasant to say the least; but I’ve got a lot of relief from it. I also recommend getting up and moving around as soon as you can. I went to the gym on day two with the catheter in and did a very lite workout. As soon as the catheter was out I started walking a few blocks; then by week two I was walking a mile or more. I am still very tired from the procedure. But again, I’m glad I did it. Well wishes to all dealing with this.

Geez doesn’t sound like it is an easy process. I had biopsy last summer and cancer was present. I had a choice between radiation or removal. I decided on removal and I am glad I did now. Removed in November robotically, catheter for 10 days and small amount of leakage for 2 or three months. Sneezing and coughing were the worst for leakage. I am great now. Actually hardly slowed me down. Surgery was easy for me. PSA tested in April. .004. Good to go!

Thanks to all for sharing. Not looking forward to making decisions about this uniquely male issue but I'll do what I have to do when I have to do it. Hearing about the options helps.
