For years and years, I have worn Hanes white athletic socks. Specifically Premium Ultra Cushion X-Temp crew length. The problem is I've been finding that they just aren't holding up anymore. They are wearing out and getting holes in the foot pad. I'm not doing anything differently. If anything I'm less harsh on them than in the past as I don't run anymore though I still walk and workout. I used to have to get rid of socks when the elastic wore out but now I find I'm frequently tossing socks because of holes.

I've always been cheap and didn't want to spend $5 or more per pair of socks but I'm open to doing that now if they will hold up better because these just aren't made like they used to be. Shoot me your suggestions. Basic white athletic socks. Cotton or bamboo or whatever they make them from now, but durable that won't wear through in a short time.

Gold Toe wearer here, for years. Totally satisfied.

I wear the white ankle highs and the white no-shows when I'm wearing shorts in summer and Gold Toe colored socks for all other seasons and situations. I easily get a couple years wear out of them.

Smart Wool socks have a lot of variety - running, hiking, thin, thick. Pricey.

Amazon has them

Puma or Nautica have been good too

I just convert them to rags when they get holes in them. Although the last couple years I'm wearing compression socks in the day, as recommended by the podiatrist.

I have some Haynes premium max cushion that seem to be holding up ok. I have a lot of socks, so I don't wear a pair out too quickly.

I wear Nike Dri Fit ankle length socks for Pickleball. They hold up very well but can be expensive.

I'm a fan of Smartwool and Darn Tough, but I've also been happy with what I got at Costco.

+1. I wear Nike Dri Fit socks. Note that there are a couple of models, pick the one that is thicker.

I was gifted a pair of Darn Tough socks and I wore a hole through the heel in about a year of infrequent use. I was too lazy to fill out the warranty claim and ship them back...and not really that motivated to do it since the socks didn't seem to last longer than my regular socks.

I used to ware gold toe when I worked, but they also got cheaper. Recently went to dickies gray socks at BJs, but they also seem to be getting holes at the same time. So I just got two more packs. I will toss all the old ones out. The good thing about having all the same sock, and getting them all at the same time is that they all match. No going through the laundry to match socks. I only have 2 types, black dress socks, and gray athletic socks.

Reminds me of the "Unified Laundry Theory" in chapter 8 of Michael Perry's book Truck: A Love Story.

LOL. I always wear shoes or boots or slippers. Maybe only socks in the house, but I don't want my feet getting sunburned or injured.

I usually buy a big pack of all the same socks at Costco or Walmart. After retiring I shifted to black anklet socks and have been happy with the change.

Members Mark made in USA crew socks... at least the last 15 years.... Do have a couple high dollar hiking pairs but they dont get used much anymore.

I like Gold Toe. My definition of BTD is a new pair of socks each day.
